My Grand Cherokee L has 2900 miles and it shifts very weird around 10 to 20 mph. It’s almost as if the transmission was slipping. I will be taking into dealership tomorrow. Hopefully it’s just low on transmission fluid or a software update, but I don’t know. It’s frustrating. If i accelerate fast you can’t really tell, but from a dead stop and accelerating slowly once it hits 10 to 20mph it shakes almost as if it was going to stall. After that speed it drives fine. Has anyone experienced this with any other Jeeps? I traded in my Jeep Cherokee and never had any problems with that one.
We have that same issue! I took our GCL into the dealership at around 2k miles. They had it for 2 days, basically did a software update and it was better, but not gone. It does it less often, but it's almost like it "shudders" when going from a stop to a slow acceleration. I feel it maybe once every other drive and it seems to be random. I stopped at the dealer yesterday and they asked me to figure out how to re-create it and I set an appointment for next week. It's very frustrating as I'm not sure I can figure out the exact sequence to make it happen again. Seems that should be something that they can figure out??? We now have 5k miles on our Jeep and we love the car.... just do NOT want transmission problems down the road... like after the warranty expires

Same here. For me it starts to happen when the car has been driving for a while like 15-20 min (probably when it’s fully warmed up). I suggest once you get to the dealership, keep the car running and have the tech/advisor ride with you right away. I think You’ll have a better chance of recreating the issue, and for them to observe it. Don’t just drop the car and hand over the keys for them to recreate the issue later, as they’ll likely not be able to.
At least thats what I plan to do the next time I bring it in again once JeepCares responds to my private messages and advise accordingly

Got it back today dealer could not get it to happen again. They think it may still be breaking in because we only have 1,700 miles on it and to keep driving and call them if it comes back.

Finally had my appointment. They drove it at dealer and they were able to tell right away what it was doing. The mechanics at the dealership determined that the transmission mount is bad and is causing the weird shifting. It is being replaced tomorrow. I will update if that fixes the problem.

Was your issue sporadic or all the time?

@JeepCares can you please confirm if a bad transmission mount like @joer561 and his dealership mentioned is the source of the shifting issue we’re all experiencing here?

No one can definitively diagnose a problem with the way your car handles over a message board, let alone for a group of people who may all have different problems. Stop being ridiculous.

If you read the posts above we all here are sort of having the same particular problem with shifting. These are brand new card and they get built the same way in batches and when things are off that’s how recalls are issued. You think every car is built by hand individually and are different? None of us here have put more than a few thousand miles on our cars, and we’re experiencing this issue a couple hundred miles in

Same issue for me. Bought a new 2021 GCL Altitude with 26 miles on it about a month ago. Feels like the transmission slips when starting out in the lower gears / speed. Sounds like taking it to the dealer hasnt been successful for anyone else here on this thread. Will wait it out for now.

Dealer called today and said they have not been able to replicate the shutter mentioned so the service manager is taking it home tonight to see if he can get it to happen. Mines been pretty sporadic since it started happing but it does it in the 10-15 mph range shifting from 1st to 2nd as described above.

We had the service 4x4 light come on and off and a few times odd shifting at low speeds. They first did a recalibration of a computer in the Jeep. Didn’t work… happened again. It’s in the shop now. Needed a new transfer case. One has been ordered and looking forward to putting this behind us!

Transmission mount did not fix issue. They have not been able to figure it out. They had to escalate the problem and I was given a rental since last week. I was told it might be an actual transmission issue and they could not believe that with low miles it is giving me this problem.

That’s a bummer. Thanks @joer561 for the update and for keeping us informed. I hope it gets resolved. I have an appointment this Tuesday to bring my GCL about this same issue. I also have case opened up with jeep about this too so hopefully they can work alongside with the dealership to get to the bottom of this issue.

Got an update and Jeep said they will be replacing the Transmission Valve Body on it, but the part won’t be in until at least a month. So now I am about to make my first payment on something I don’t even have. On a 60k vehicle. I do have a loaner , but nothing compared to what specs on my Jeep Grand Cherokee L has. Rental has cloth seats no 4x4 and no air ride system. I am pretty upset since they did say that they are pretty much starting with mine as an experiment to see if that works. They told me they haven’t heard of others having this problem, which is obviously not true since we are having this conversation here on this forum. For the price I paid I could have gone with something else but owning a Jeep already and no problems I thought this would be an awesome buy and it obviously has not.

Forgot to mention this vehicle isn’t even for me it was my wife’s birthday present which she only got to enjoy for a few days. That just makes this whole situation a little worse.

My Jeep surges acceleration from 1st to 2nd. Feels like it hangs on downshift from 4th to third and 2nd to 1st. Also has a audible kind of click sound at downshift from 2nd to 1st. I have an appointment set at the dealer on Monday 10/18

The car is still drivable right? The random shuddering and jerkiness during shifting is super annoying but it still drives. Maybe you can get your Jeep back and continue to drive it around until they get the part. Unless they’ve made the determination that it’s not safe to drive

Man, I’m sorry to hear what you, and your wife going through. 1 month is a really long time for anyone to be out of a brand new car they just boughtI.

This Jeep is my first ever new car I’ve bought in my entire life, and this same thing/issue I’m experiencing with my car has totally put a damper on my whole new car buying experience. It was this or the new Nissan Pathfinder for me.

what engine do you have and what octane are you using? I have the V6 and I find that using 89 octane reduces this from happening...
