The great software update of 2022

So Harmon Kardon built the touchscreen/radio hardware, same as WK2 platform and many other FCA models. Harmon builds the entire system from radio to amplifier. But McIntosh licensed their speakers and sound processing directly to Jeep/Competitor? Seems illogical.

Propaganda states “McIntosh MX950 Entertainment System”. So the words system mean speakers, maybe an amplifier, no touchscreen/radio, no software as Jeep has engineering authority over software, McIntosh could only provide EQ settings/Time delays and logos to Jeep. The logos and likeness of McIntosh must mean “system” these days. The 6x9” speakers in the doors cost $35-60 my cost. Cheapest McIntosh speaker in history.

Seems very fishy and deceiving at the least.

Seems like Harmon build the "uconnect/radio module" which is different from the touchscreen itself (its 2 different parts). For Mcintosh system it uses a different backend computer but the same touchscreen.

I haven't seen @JeepCares post any actual information about anything, ever. Which makes sense, since I'm pretty sure it's just a troll account run by Ford. I could be wrong though. It might be run by Chevy.
I had an open case with @JeepCares about all the issues with the UConnect. When the car was first opened, it was supposed to be released Q4 2021. That obviously didn’t happen, and now the weekly emails I was getting with updates, and stopped coming. Not that they ever contained any new info.

OTA
No recent trips to the dealership
Is that pushed directly to your console, unattended? You'd think there'd be some notification, maybe even a release notes page, or is this all just randomly appearing for some and not others? Does everyone need a cellular contract to receive these, or can they be downloaded to a USB stick and installed from there?

No one knows. The dealer told me when they do updates they use a USB stick....but I've also heard of dealer's frying module when the power/wifi goes out so there is an active connection. No idea.

When an owner gets the update it's definitely OTA through wifi - but the vehicle has to be notified of the update so maybe that comes through the vehicle's SAT connection and then WIFI for the download? I'm just guessing but it makes sense to me.

Some have gotten it, some havent, Some 2021, some 2022...

Seems mostly like magic rather than a science.

Yes

There is a notification of software being available for update but I didnt see a release notes page detailing what was changing.
See attached

No cellular contract, I got this over wifi.
You do need to go into settings of the vehicle, software update and check the option for receiving upgrades over wifi, connecting to your home wireless router.
I presume this happened overnight while car was in garage.

...meanwhile the McIntosh is built by Panasonic. It pales in comparison to my McIntosh home products. The HK amp and Focal aftermarket speakers I put in my X5 had the clarity and volume at 10 as this McIntosh has at 39. And why is 39 the max volume anyway? So bizarre.

How did you determine this? Did McIntosh just sell them the rights to their name and logo? Ahead of having access, I've been curious about how closely this performance resembled their home components.

There is a bug in the radio module (at least for the 8.4”) and I have told jeep about this months ago. They don’t care. Can’t really do anything but view…still, fix this… get better coders.
Also, the radio was replaced and this still does this.
I did notice the marketplace app is finally gone, I knew they were getting rid of that. I still have the weather app and it does nothing but flashes screen when tapped.

Video:
In my 8.4 system i don't even have a lot of the options you did i the Apps button, most importantly i don't have a software update button.

I think it was more a distraction to get back on topic due to me derailing it earlier with Mcintosh/Harmon brand comments... "Allow me to introduce Conway Twitty"

To manually check for software updates via a PC, use the link below, enter your VIN. I believe this will push a update if available and not already done via OTA. I found a video on youtube from a guy doing a ram truck 8.4 uconnect this way.

Doesn't do a thing. I know that there is a newer version available. Yet, numerous times I've checked that site and it says I have no updates available.

My Jeep says my software version is fca-my21.r17.99-prod as of today. That link says no updates available for me either. This forum has post stating this was the first OTA update version back in October. I assume this is the out of date version you speak of.

I am not surprised that the link brings us no joy. Just offering it as a possible solution. From research it seems that site allows offline updating by downloading a large file from Uconnect and then making an image on a usb stick to be inserted into the vehicle. Due to the boondoggle of updates, maybe it has been disabled/paused until things are sorted out.
