HUD not showing Speed Limit

Their argument is laughably unreasonable and is ipso facto false. "Can" means that it is the vehicle owner's choice. In point of fact: In our Overlands, the HUD "cannot" display the information as advertised specifically because they purposely "chose" (at some point) not to include the functionality they promised in their own advertising.

If anything, the word they are looking for is "could", but that is not the word they chose. "Can" is a promise that it "will" display that information if the owner chooses.

It's no different than saying the heated seats "can" create warm seats. If they put all the equipment in the car, and then choose to disable the functionality on Overland trims, but still advertised that they "can" heat the seats...? None of what they're saying even passes 'the giggle test'. It's that stupid.

They have to make this right.

This is what my owner's manual (from my Jeep online login page) says (it should absolutely have it included):

@Sarge You are going to get really worked up when you find out your spec/build sheet says projection headlights and you don't have those either. You have normal reflector housing headlights.

Should be something that looks like this, from the wagoneer:

What comes on the L:

Well, at least my headlights work. In the case of the HUD, the equipment is all there (most of it is defective), but Jeep is willfully disabling features they promised to provide and then playing utterly nonsensical, pedantic games by reaching for the stars to redefine the meaning of the word "can".

I wasn't aware of the headlights issue, but I haven't seen any projector style headlights on any trim level of Grand Cherokee, so I'd chalk that up to a typo, vs willfully stripping advertised features that could more easily have been provided than disabled via software.

In an Overland also and the speed limit doesn't display in my HUD either. When building the Overland, Summit, Summit Reserve it appeared that was a feature only available on Summit and Summit Reserve, but I'd be all for it being added to the Overland via a software update.

Just picked up my 22 overland today. HUD settings allow me to add the speed limit to custom but it doesn’t show up when driving. I changed the setting to Advanced and still not showing up either.

Hello everyone. After spending many months investigating this issue, including getting the Virginia Attorney General's office involved, Jeep offered me a full refund ($1,995) for the cost of the Adv Pro Tech Group option. I honestly believe that a class action lawsuit is not too far off given all the complaints I have read about features and parts missing from vehicles without any notice given to the customer. As yet another of many examples, my brother took delivery of his new Ram truck. He paid for an option that included power mirrors. Guess what his truck did NOT include? Yup, no power mirrors. I would strongly suggest that each of you use what Jeep did for me as a president for getting a refund as well. As we all know, the only thing that motivates a company to take meaningful action is when it cost them $$$. It is my hope that if enough of you pursue such an action that Jeep will eventually address the problem which I am all but certain is simply a software update. Good luck!!

The feature should be available for Overland with HUD. The cameras in the Adv Pro Tech is what makes it possible to recognize the speed limit signs
I suggest you work this with your dealer and Jeep directly.

Thanks for the update. I will be pursuing this with them as well. All the quality control and electrical issues I'm having have ruined the whole purchase/ownership experience for my family, and I was fully prepared for some above average 'first year' teething issues. But Jeep telling people that when they use the word "can" and it really means "may or may not"... that's just a willful slap in the face. Sorry Jeep, but no one with English as a first language throwing down this much money on these cars is that smooth-brained.

Grand Cherokee L 2021, no speed limit inHUD.
Despite the manual showing the speed limit in every option of the HUD, it is not there! After five months of discussing with Wave personnel, service techs and sales people, the answer finally came down that without the Road Sign recognition option, the speed limit will NOT appear in the HUD. When the sales staff finally got this notice, they checked, and not a single one of the units on their lot had this option, and so no Overland in their stock could display the speed limit in the HUD. Because this was a specific request I had when Ipurchased, and because EVERY person I spoke with at the dealer, and at Wave, was certain that it was there (but couldn’t be found), I feel that I was mislead (inadvertently, but still misled). The sales manager eventually offered me a two year warranty extension as compensation.

In the 2021 Overland L the speed limit will NOT show in the HUD unless you have the Street Sign Recognition option. I’ve been pursuing this for five months because I specifically requested it at time of purchase. In October, Jeep sent a notice to dealers that we, the customers, were confused that the speed limit should appear in the Adv Pro Tech package. It will only appear with the Street Sign Recognition option, and this option cannot be added to a previously manufactured Overland. Up to when the notice was sent out, NO ONE at my dealer knew it, neither did any of the folks I spoke with at Jeep Wave. The people who wrote the manual also didn’t seem to know, because the manual says that every option of the HUD setup included it.
I relentlessly followed up on this problem, and my sales manager finally offered a two year vehicle warranty extension as compensation for their oversight.

I do not believe there is a physical hardware or additional camera that is required for the Street Sign Recognition.
If there is and someone knows what/where it is located in the Summit, then please clarify.

This is more than just a miss in the manual, when you configure Custom option on the HUD it makes you go through the Uconnect screen for options. The speed limit shows there for the Overland.
If there is no additional physical hardware to recognize the street signs then its a software miss from Jeep.

My SR shows the soeed limit. However, that's the only sign that is shown.
Correct. The unknown is what makes it possible for the vehicle to recognize the street signs.
Dont remember seeing additional cameras on the Summit vs Overland with Adv pro tech

Same as many... I can custom design the HUD and have all but the Speed Limit Displayed Interesting that its mentioned this is activated with your forward facing cameras, on other vehicles that utilize such technology they perform this with a hand shake to the GPS unit.. where is it written it is a forward facing camera item?

I’m opening a case tomorrow and Im not inclined to accept “the people who wrote the manual had an oversight”. That’s complete nonsense. If it was a manual oversight then why does all of the Overland HUD display configuration settings confirm speed limit both in the Uconnect and in the features description. Also, if I’m not mistaken there is at least one Overland owner that has this working??

The marketing materials also promise this functionality for anyone with the system. It should appear on Overlands, but it seems someone in marketing made a decision after the fact to make that a SR-only feature and never bothered to fix the marketing materials. Which is really, really stupid. I bought the Overland over the SR because I didn't want the quilted seats or the rear center console, but I bought all the other options available on the Overland. If I could have gotten the SR with a bench or even no console, and gray wood instead of orange, I would have. It wasn't a price point decision, but Jeep doesn't understand that.

What they do need to wrap their heads around is the fact that they promised this functionality, and they need to deliver it. In at least one case, they have apparently finally caved and refunded the buyer the price of the tech package that was supposed to include this functionality. Either they owe us all a lot of refunds, or they need to fix the code, because the code is the only thing preventing this.

When driving in new, unfamiliar places that feature can save you a speeding ticket in thousands of small towns, where Roscoe P Coltrain law enforcement sits waiting to dish out tickets for even the smallest infractions. The functionality was promised and is available, it just has to be enabled as promised. You do understand that when you pay for something, you're contractually entitled to it, don't you? It's called 'getting the benefit of your bargain'. Jeep needs to perform on their promise, period.
