Front collision warning system?

I have an Altitude L and the Front Automatic Braking not working is the first thing I noticed. I tried testing this multiple times and it just did not come on before I had to slam on the brakes. The system is useless.

Was it helpful, no, but do I appreciate you trying to support and assist with this concern, absolutely! So thank you!

You mention visiting our dealer but we have also stated that when talking with our dealers they say nothing is wrong. It’s a hard system to test and if the GCL is throwing no error codes they chalk it up as working fine. It clearly is not. What is your solution when the dealer says all is good? That’s where we are and I’d prefer to not have to drive back to my dealer again for that same outcome unless confident something different will occur?
Exactly. This is a safety issue and Jeep should know the importance of having front collision avoidance systems on vehicles. If the system isn't working, this better be a priority. Recommending a dealer visit is not the answer.

I’ve been reading about this for a few week, today I was driving and the car in front of me rear ended the person in front of them. The system worked it slammed the brakes on and saved me but Jesus it way to damn close for comfort. I thought the system wasn’t working either. I promise you that you won’t want to test it. You need to get ridiculously close to a crash. It turned my radio down low, flashed brake on the screen and applied brake but I’m not sure how much because at that point i mashed the brake myself.

That short of a distance sounds more like the parking brake system than a collision avoidance system. I’ve had it slam on the brakes as I was exiting a parking lot turning right while someone else was turning right into the driveway. We can 6-12” or space but I can understand the car’s confusion about the potential for a collision.

Sorry that happened but glad you were safe and thank you for sharing!

I’d be interested to know if you have your FCW set to Near, Medium or Far?

Also happy to hear the system worked although as you mentioned it would be nice to not be inches from a crash for the system to trigger if you have the system set to anything other than Near

I set it to far the day I got it. God I could only image the other settings

In addition, today I was about to go through an intersection and another vehicle ran the red light as I was pulling out. Luckily they slammed on their brakes halfway through the intersection and were maybe only a couple feet from my GCL as it was entering the intersection…no intersection collision warning or anything. I am now confident neither forward collision or intersection collision work as intended.
You may or may not be aware, the intersection Collision–Assist System is not standard and it is not the same as the standard forward collision warning with active braking system. The Intersection Collision–Assist System is an optional package on the Limited, Overland, and Summit and not available on the Laredo, or Altitude. Is it possible your jeep doesn't have this package? IDK why this safety feature is not standard.

I have a Summit and it’s very much a Standard feature. It’s listed as standard on my window sticker and on my build sheet.

With that said, if it’s not a standard safety feature on all models that means that I specifically purchased it and would appreciate it working as it should.

Has anyone received any input from their dealer on this subject. Brought my Summit Reserve in yesterday for this and a few other problems. Dealer said there is no way to check the system and there are no codes. System working as intended. I said if there is no way to test then how can you say the system is working as intended. He had no answer for me. Called Jeep Customer Care and they are setting me up with an appointment with another dealer. Tried to get it to activate today and at about 20 miles an hour it activated about 6 feet from another vehicle with just the alarm. No braking. If I didn’t slam on the brakes I’m sure I would have hit the car in front of me. Before Jeep Cares chimes in I have the system set on far with braking and warning on. I had this system on a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and it worked flawlessly. I asked if they had any specs on how the system should work and they had nothing. Surely there has to be numbers somewhere that if your car is traveling at a certain speed the system should activate at such and such a distance. Very Frustrating.

All I can say is that yesterday, after almost 2 months of ownership, I experienced my first audible warning. I was on my way home from the dealer and they did the airbag recall and another thing. Maybe that fixed it??!!
