center console piano black suggestions

I've just gone through this with the guys over at https://cactustint.com/
I've done PPF and window tint on 4 cars now and I just got the WL74 SR back a couple weeks ago. I too was looking for a solution to cover/protect the piano black. They only were able to put a satin PPF over the main screen (which does help reduce glare and finger prints) but they weren't able to put PPF or wrap on either of the center compartment lids or the area around the shift knob. Just too intricate and they didn't think they could create a clean edge. They think that eventually, they may be able to find a pattern they can use so that the film/wrap could be computer cut to fit, but they weren't able to find anything now. Maybe the after-market will come with a ppf or wrap pre-cut for us, but for now, I'm leaving both compartment lids open to prevent the scratching.
dang I can see that too, too many angles and tight spaced may be hard to make it perfect. a computer cut would be the solution

Good suggestion... When my Overland arrives both lids will be left open until I find a more suitable solution. Quick Q, does anyone know if the two lids can be removed easily? If so maybe one can apply a film and wrap it around the edges to the backside.

Ladies and Gents, I just got my 22 SR L back today from having the center console wrapped with ppf. It looks perfect. If you look hard you can see the edge of the wrap on the border of the touchscreen but most edges of the wrap are hidden. Where you see the wrap edge it looks like part of the intended design. The wrap doesn't show fingerprints or smudges the way the plastic does and doesn't seem to scratch or show scratches easily. Well worth it! They did my console in front and in the one in the second row for around $200. The key is choosing a vendor with a template. No way would i use a vendor without one. I used Xpel.

Excellent!
Did they do both the compartment lids and the area around the shift knob?
Do you know if they had a pattern or did they free-hand it?
Where's the shop you had it done?

For the front console, everything is covered with ppf, door lids etc. It is all from a pattern that is specific to your trim level. You wouldn't want them to do a hand cutout. I assume they have some sort of "printer" that cuts everything to a precise fit based on the pattern. It was the first one they've done and it really turned out perfect. So if you find a good shop, all the principles of applying ppf to the exterior carry over to the interior.

You have to really look for the edge of the ppf to see it. In the photos, it shows up more than in person. It's really unnoticeable.
yeah I see what you mean, I can see it but they did a very good job overall , ima going to pull the trigger on that too. thank you so much!!!

I had some bad scratches that arose from dry skin on my finger tips, this is crazy. I tried several different things even car waxes.
I bought this product on Amazon, it was cheap (~$17.00) and honestly it removed almost all of the scratches. I applied this three times, gave it about 5 minutes and buffed it out.

My car should be de-chromed this week. I was able to get the tint, all the chrome except the grille and headlight trim as well as the center console done for $600. It pays to have friends in the right places :) I will post pics once it is complete. The best solution for the grille is to get the Altitude Grille. Haven't researched the cost, if anyone has, please let me know. I don't want to paint it as it's prone to chip then.

I've been wondering the same thing about that piano black. I don't know why car manufacturers use it - everyone hates it. I've watched countless hundreds of car reviews and every single one of them rips on piano black if the car has it. I too was thinking about doing a clear wrap, but I'm also wondering if wrapping it with a different texture / material will look better. Even the clear wrap is going to get trashed and need replacing every year. Something that's not so shiny and has a texture will help hide all the scratches.
I would love to know what everyone is doing for this/ I have a couple small scratches on mine already and i hate it.
