replacement? all ready
To the dealer's credit, the car came in, they did PDI, everything was good. When they went to fuel it come to load on a car carrier to deliver to me in SC the nav wasn't responding properly. They ordered a replacement screen immediately and it was supposed to be last week but it was delayed until tomorrow. I don't have faith it will arrive tomorrow, but we shall see what happens. As a 20 year veteran of the business, most of that time with BMW, I am no stranger to dealing with delivery issues, especially tech issues. I am disappointed, but I will give them the necessary time to properly address it. I also shared with them the list of know issues that are circulating on this forum and said "at a minimum if you have my car sitting there, I would expect that you go through it with a fine-tooth comb to ensure that these other issues aren't present as well. A typical dealership would have shipped that car with the nav unit being DOA as they were paid and would let the local dealer fix it.

I've been wondering the same thing about that piano black. I don't know why car manufacturers use it - everyone hates it. I've watched countless hundreds of car reviews and every single one of them rips on piano black if the car has it. I too was thinking about doing a clear wrap, but I'm also wondering if wrapping it with a different texture / material will look better. Even the clear wrap is going to get trashed and need replacing every year. Something that's not so shiny and has a texture will help hide all the scratches.

I would do a carbon fiber type wrap, but it doesn't blend with the wood. I don't know why they just didn't use the wood there as well.

Very few car interiors are perfect, and I know piano black gloss looks beautiful in the showroom, but I still can't believe they're getting away with form over function nowadays. I assume the Jeep designers went with this because it looks luxurious, but doesn't cost a whole heck of a lot, whereas wood or another high-grade "luxury" material would cost more. I actually find it a bit silly that they included the piano black in the more "rugged" Trailhawk trim, but I value function over design more than others, so who knows. Personally, just give me good quality non-shiny material and we are good to go.

I've reached out to a couple PPF folks in the Denver area to see what my options are around here. Hopefully it won't be too much $$.

I am waiting on my 22WL to arrive and when it does, I am also going to have the PPF installed on the interior. Would love to know what you are quoted in Denver to see if that is in line just down I-80 in Omaha.

I think u can put some kind of invisible plastic wrap so its still looks like glossy but its not that easy to scratch? Isnt it the best to put it right away after after picking up the car from dealer lot?

Good thread, following, will have it in my Trailhawk so imagine me, dust and sand covered with black piano interior. Hopefully we all can find an easy fix

I’ve gotten estimates of around $150ish for just the console area. Two places currently have GCLs that they’re installing PPF on the console area and that’s the estimate I got with the assumption that they’re the same consoles as the 2-row GC (it’s my assumption that they are the exact same). Seems reasonable.

I've just gone through this with the guys over at https://cactustint.com/
I've done PPF and window tint on 4 cars now and I just got the WL74 SR back a couple weeks ago. I too was looking for a solution to cover/protect the piano black. They only were able to put a satin PPF over the main screen (which does help reduce glare and finger prints) but they weren't able to put PPF or wrap on either of the center compartment lids or the area around the shift knob. Just too intricate and they didn't think they could create a clean edge. They think that eventually, they may be able to find a pattern they can use so that the film/wrap could be computer cut to fit, but they weren't able to find anything now. Maybe the after-market will come with a ppf or wrap pre-cut for us, but for now, I'm leaving both compartment lids open to prevent the scratching.
