Anyone not get a trailer hitch that was supposed to get one?

I’m working on a deal for a Overland that is in transit… it is supposed to have a trailer hitch standard, but this one doesn’t have it on the build sheet according to the dealer.
It has a $600 trailer prep group, but no hitch?
Now the dealer wants to charge me $1200 for putting a hitch on!!!
Anyone else having this issue?

Perhaps there is a shortage of trailer hitch/wiring harness or related chips?
My Limited has the optional Customer Preferred Package 22E with Trailer–Tow Package $995

Trailer–Hitch Zoom
  • Automatic Headlamp Leveling System
  • Rear Load–Leveling Suspension
  • Full Size Spare Tire
  • 7–and 4–Pin Wiring Harness
  • Class IV Receiver–Hitch
Now I see some Limited Preferred Package 22E come with the Trailer Tow Prep Group $695 (minus the wiring harness and receiver hitch.)

The dealer is working with Jeep to come to some resolution...
The interesting part is that they can get the hitch and wiring harness from Mopar parts!
It’s supposed to arrive on Monday, so we will see how it goes.

The hitch, load leveling suspension, Quadra Lift suspension, and active damping were all standard on the Overland and Summit. Now all of that is taken away for a $750 credit, and when you add back the hitch and load leveling suspension you save a whopping $55. Wow, $55 savings for 2 or 3 thousand dollars worth of equipment deleted. Not to mention the dinging you will take in at trade because that equipment is missing. Sounds like a great class action lawsuit in the making. Im very disappointed in Stellantis for doing this. Sounds like something gm would do.

Also if you compare the sticker prices on an Overland on the lot versus the one in transit missing the Quadra lift, the sticker is $500 more on the Jeep in transit. Absolutely mind boggling. Super disappointed.
I was planning on waiting til next summer to purchase but don’t know what I’ll do if all these items are missing and the price has gone up.

The Overland came in and it’s confirmed that it doesn’t have the hitch or wiring.
I’m working with the owner of the dealership to resolve it… He is working with Jeep on a solution.
thankfully I don’t need the hitch right away… just have a small trailer I use once and a while.
Anything big I tow with my Power Wagon. I will give them a week or two to get it worked out.
Picking up the Overland tonight!

I ordered my Summit Reserve in April - it was delivered in July.
My window sticker says it includes the Trailer-Tow Package, but no hitch to be seen… I’ve wondered if it was me just thinking it came with it, or was it really missing.

Hi, Morguehan. The Trailer Tow Package was removed from both the Summit and Overland trim levels because of the chip shortage. Customers will be credited for the loss of this part. If you have any further questions, please contact your dealer or Jeep Cares at 877-426-5337.

Sounds like my dealer has finally found a resolution to the missing hitch and wiring...
Jeep will reimburse them for the parts and installation.
He is also giving me a additional discount and asked Jeep to add a bonus for putting us through the trouble.
We will see what the final deal looks like in a day or two...

Hello everyone… I’m new to the forum. First post for me :) We just brought home our L yesterday. We did buy a limited 4x4 with the Customer Preferred Package 22E - Trailer–Tow Package. On the sticker it says this -

Trailer–Tow Package
- Trailer–Hitch Zoom
- Automatic Headlamp Leveling System
- Rear Load–Leveling Suspension
- Full Size Spare Tire
- 7–and 4–Pin Wiring Harness
- Class IV Receiver–Hitch

Then on the dealers site it says this about it.

TRAILER TOW PACKAGE $995
- Rear Load Leveling Suspension
- Full Size Spare Tire
- 7 & 4 Pin Wiring Harness
- Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
- 18" Full-Size Steel Spare Wheel
- Automatic Headlamp Leveling System
- Trailer Hitch Zoom
- 220 Amp Alternator
- Class IV Receiver Hitch

Wondering if this is different then some others ? The window sticker doesn’t mention a few things that the dealership mentioned. Also… I bought the upgraded 20” tires … I’ll have to check to see if it’s a 20” or the standard 18”.

Hello All,

This is my first post to the WL forum

I just got a Limited 4x4 (off the lot on Monday and it came with the Customer Preferred Package 22E with Trailer Tow Prep Group $695 (minus the wiring harness and receiver hitch.). I bought this model off the truck because it was the only one at the dealer with the luxury 2 package and when I saw the window sticker I just assumed that "Trailer Tow" meant it had a hitch and harness included. While doing the delivery after purchase is when I noticed it did not have a hitch and pointed it out to the dealer. They investigated and figured out that the Prep Group did not include the Hitch and Harness.

As others have mentioned there is nowhere that can install a Hitch and Harness for 300 dollars. Seems a bit unfair to have to speed double that to get a hitch installed knowing that this was due to a parts shortage with Jeep. Not really a great introduction as a first-time Jeep customer.

@JeepCares is there anything you can do to help resolve this?

Hello @Prybry,

Can you confirm if your Jeep came with this package and if your dealer was really able to work something out with Jeep? If so could you give me any details?

The Jeep I bought came with this package and I only caught that it didnt have the Hitch and Harness at the very last moment but stupidly decided to move forward. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said they would check with Jeep but said that there was nothing that can be done, but I am almost certain they didn't even look into it. Then their parts department quoted me 2000 dollars for the install, 1200 for installation.

I feel a bit ripped off. There is no mention of a "Tow Prep Group" on the Jeep website giving me no heads to explore different Tow Hitch groups before selecting a Jeep with a Tow package. Meaning once I saw Tow Package on the sticker I assumed that was the same and only Tow package on the web-site. So with this, I am out 1700 dollars. Not to mention it still isn't clear to me if I didn't get the larger alternator and heavy-duty cooling that the only advertised 995 package includes

I have a supposedly escalated issue ticket open with @JeepCares that I am waiting for a call back on to see if hopefully, Jeep is willing to help me.

@JeepCares, This is my 2nd request for feedback from you on this thread, but can someone contact me to assist me with getting this resolved? This is my first jeep and this is a bad start to my experience. I am also being leaned on by the dealer to give them a 10 rating and having a hard time justifying at 10 given the current situation,
