Jeep Grand Cherokee L order status updates….

My jeep is in the ship stage, when I inquired they told me no ETA was provided. I asked my dealer and they told me:

There really isn't any way to track it at the beginning of the month they told all of our customers it would be at least 100 days before any orders get delivered.

So, I get what the complaint is, that you order something you don't get ... but I think it is overly dramatic when people are willing to cancel an order because they are not getting eLSD. My other vehicle is a JK Rubicon, and it has standard differentials, not eLSD ... and it will out wheel just about any vehicle off road. The traction control uses the brakes, and there is no wheel spin as with standard diff. I ordered the GCL, and like everyone else, tried to get the off road package, but couldn't. But really, anyone wanting to go rock crawling should probably order the wrangler, not the GCL in the first place

My complaint isn't really the fact that they pulled the eLSD, it is more around principal that it wasn't conveyed to me. I was told some BS line about Jeep making the car cheaper because the 2022's were about to come out. That is what pissed me off. I can order another from another truthful dealer.

Order placed 4/24
VIN received 6/5
Buildsheet on 8/5
shipped status 8/12
eta to rail yard in phoenix 8/28
eta to dealer 9/2
Ordered mine July 9th. GCL Overland Summit V8.
Received VIN the following Monday the 12th and was notified by dealer car was in D Status.
Still in D Status according to my dealer, I opened a case with Jeep (last week on Aug 12th) and this is the response I got:

Currently your order is in the scheduling phase of the manufacturing process. The parts required to build the vehicle are being scheduled and as soon as they are available and ready, order will be scheduled for build. Most orders are scheduled for build within 30 days after reaching this stage.
we will work with our logistic resources to ensure your vehicle order is expedited and prioritized.

We encourage you to periodically stay in touch with your selling dealership for additional order updates as they become available. We will also offer new updates as details become available.

We do appreciate your patience and understanding during this unprecedented time and thank you for being a part of the JEEP family.

I just called in again today and they have no update, no idea what the timeline "could" be. They know nothing. told me to call back but would definitely NOT have any useful info. We are for sure getting close to the 22 model orders coming out (thought Jeep has no idea on that either) and I'm not too keen to buy a last minute model only to have it immediately be last years model.

I'm getting pissed! I've owned 5 Jeeps now, this will be my last if Jeep doesn't give me an actual update by end of the week. This model was delayed even before COVID hit, now its just absurd. @JeepCares I hope you see how many people you are starting to make very upset.

Any ideas on the 22 release date? Worried I am buying a 21 summit reserve and the handsfree driving will be more than a software update...

@Trailrated I have similar feelings about the model year, (I ordered Summit Reserve V8 on July 29th, got VIN / D status on Aug 5th). Having that VIN, I know it's marked as a 2021 with the M character in it. Considering it hasn't even been made, if they open up to order 2022s on the GLCs I'll be a little upset, when you special order a build for a mass produced vehicle, I'd rather not drive off the lot knowing it's already "a year old". The difference of the M vs N in the VIN is a $6300 difference when it drives off the lot, even if nothing changes to the vehicle itself.
(source: https://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/how-fast-does-my-new-car-lose-value-infographic.html , a $70k vehicle is worth 9% less the moment it drives off the lot ($63000), but driving something already "1 year old" off the lot is an additional $6300 and my $70k isn't $63k, it's $56,700 when I drive off that lot.) I think that's what bothers me the most.

At the same time, I don't want to wait 6-12 months for a V8 if they were to say: "we'll drop your VIN and issue a new one with an N so it's a 2022" and then have to wait for all the 2022 V6's to be produced before they get to the V8's again....we'll be in the same boat again.

I agree with you guys. I ordered my Reserve on July 14th. Two days later it hit D. Several days after it went to D1 with an estimated ship date of August 9th, which came and went. Went right back to D where it still remains.

I doubt you would get a 2021 even if you ordered today. I ordered mine May 8th and it is not even scheduled to build yet. It was scheduled and then moved back to gathering parts. V8, summit. Who knows if it will ever come in.
I just ordered mine beginning of August, got the Vin number and its a M (2021) summit reserve V8... still in scheduling phase

Yeah .... from the point I had a VIN to the point I had a build sheet ... was about two months. It seemed like it stayed in the state you just described forever, then things started happening over night. If your experience will be like mine ... you still have a few weeks to wait. Keep the faith. I used this link daily to keep my sanity:
One morning you will wake up and you'll have a build sheet and you will be ready to schedule shipping!
I suppose if you plan on treating the car as disposable, whether it is a 2021 or a 2022 matters. But, if you are going to keep the car around for a few years ... 2021 or 2022 does not really matter in the end. It'll still be one of the best cars in its class on the road.
