To buy or not to buy

Does the new GCL suck as much as it seems?

Within the past 2 months we have driven every comparable model, both direct competitor and indirect. Explorer, Acadia, XC90, Atlas, Palisade, Telluride, New Pathfinder, Highlander, Ascent even a 2018 Q7 that was originally $72k.

We wanted to love the GCL but between the lack of features and the ARRAY of problems/issues I've seen on here I just don't know. The GCL drove well but wasn'T blown away.

BTW are budget is $53k so obviously looking at the GCL Limited relatively loaded

We drove most of the same list as you and went with the GCL Summit. The tech was better than everyone else and why some bugs, I am sure it will get better.

The people with issues always post more than those without.

I was in a similar situation like yours. My budget was around $60k (+/-) and I was debating between the GCL or a 2018-2019 CPO Mercedes GLS. The MB around that price mainly were in the range of 30 to 40k miles on them.
I decided to get an Overland especially it is a new car with 0 miles on it and I will be the first owner and if I have any issues during the first 3 yrs of the warranty I can trade it in for something else.
Btw, I test drove the GCL limited too and was not impressed with the ride as it felt harsh, the air suspension in the higher trim is much better.

The limited is in reality one of the low end trims for the GC, if you flip this analysis and compare the GCL summit reserve to a NEW bmw X7 or audi Q7, you fill find in a feature for feature comparison the GCL to be an excellent bargain. (And the same will hold true for the 2 row vs the X5 or MB GLE)

In general jeep is positioning their brand as a half step above the domestic/Asian/german core brands and a half step below the german luxury brands, you will find them priced accordingly. Considering how aggressively they have been jacking up their prices in the short time the L has been on sale the strategy must be working to some extent.

BUY! Just purchased a GCL Overland and am just over the top with it! The ride has been great and the features are quite impressive. I have it set to lower upon exit and this feature alone has helped my 80-year old Mother get in and out of the vehicle. Fun to drive and the ambient lighting along with the McIntosh sound system, just awesome! I was hounded for months to trade in my GC Limited v8 Hemi and after some back and forth with pricing and an extra 5k for my trade-in I came in under 57K for a fully loaded Overland. I got the captain's chairs and it's been a lot of fun to have thus far! Added the running boards also...

Generally love mine. Problems so far:

- Blown front left door speaker
- Occasionally car play issues (but really not dissimilar from prior cars that were always losing bluetooth connection)
- Creak coming from the back right door area when you accelerate or hit a bump. This one is the one that worries me as its not obvious what the problem is.

But tech is great. Drives great. Looks great to me. Get lots of compliments.

Amber service 4wd at 100 miles. Ok just a trip to the dealer and a quick update but that was after several calls and initially being told it would be a week for an appointment. Ruined vacation due to the rear latch draining the battery(1000) miles. First two dealers told me it would be 2 months for an appointment luckily one not so close one was able to take the car in the first day. Power steering unavailable warning at 300o miles. Now after 10 days at the dealer I’m told the rack and pinion needs to be replaced. 3000 miles what the? 3 to 5 days minimum for the part to arrive then who knows.
Lots of ruined plans.
It will take a great deal of good will from Jeep to change my mind about this car and future Jeep’s.

Every time I see an ad positioning Wagoneer as a luxury brand, all I can think of are the comments in this thread and others like it. Those poor saps who just paid $100k for the GCL's big brother are going to run smack dab into the same quality issues and have to get them serviced (at least initially) at the same dealers.
Maybe we'll benefit too?

One of the features I think of is to have the 360 cameras as standard especially for the higher trim with $55k+.
Oh standard. I was about to say, I have 360 cameras! I did see Range Rover had a positionable 3D space camera version of 360 that was impressive, but generally useless.

If you plan to visit the dealer for any of the concerns you mentioned and need assistance, let us know!
