Steering wheel doesn’t lock when ignition is off

Is proximity wake-up enabled in settings? I found it by smoking a cigarette in my garage. So I was there roughly 5 minutes when I noticed it first. Then sat and waited and it kept doing it. I spent roughly 30 minutes or so. You spent a few minutes.

Keep in mind, this happened back in august after pickup, I’ve had multiple software updates since. I have not enabled proximity wake-up to test. I have purposely disabled all non essential functions/options to help narrow issues down.

Jeep cares is still here after all.

We have the same issue. The steering wheel doesn’t lock when the vehicle is turned off. At some point it eventually does because I notice it’s locked the next morning when heading to work.

I brought it up to the dealer when I took delivery of our 21 Overland. They said it should go away after 500 miles. It’s still happening at ~3,000 miles.

I'm not sure if it ever locks. My vehicle was off since yesterday. Just got into it. It is not locked. FYI, all vehicles don't have locking steering wheels.

I think I read that the steering wheel is electrical. If that being the case then maybe they break the electrical circuit so that the steering wheel becomes unfunctional. I don't have New Overlan yet so I can't test this theory.

Just to reiterate my previous statement that all vehicles don't have locking steering wheels, l was out in my 22 Lincoln Corsair. The steering wheel doesn't lock in it either.

FYI the proximity approach is able to be turned off in vehicle settings in the Uconnect touchscreen.

Also, as a side note. Proximity wake-up had to be shut off immediately after I picked my vehicle up. My key rack is 6-10’ away from the drivers door, through a wall separating my garage from my house. The keys placed in close proximity told the Jeep I was near, so it turned on my lights, cycled the fuel pump and turned on the stereo awaiting my arrival. After a short time due to a door not opening, it went back to sleep. Shortly later it did it all again. It continued this pattern for over 30 minutes non stop while I figured out how to disable it. It literally did it so many times I could easily see how a battery would die. It has been disabled ever since. I saw 10-15 of these cycles while I was reading the manual.

I picked up in august 2021, disabled it maybe 2-3 days later. Many software updates since, I haven’t tried to re enable it.
Great advice. At this point that dealers probably aren't able to give a full summary of the invisible yet signficant automatic features, so that one is important to know.

I have recently noticed that my steering wheel isn’t locked when ignition is totally off. This is a Limited with about 1,000 miles. I am pretty sure this isn’t normal. Any body else notice this? Thanks
Since the Jeeps are flat-towed behind motor homes, they steering wheel shouldn't lock or the tires would be pulled sideways around corners. This has been the case for many years.
The 22 Lincoln Corsairs are also able to be flat-towed. As many of you have indicated most vehicles can't be flat-towed.
You may have other valid complaints, but this isn't one of them.

The NHTSA doesn’t require vehicles to be able to be flat towed. They require steering wheel locks.

I would ensure you have a 2 speed transfer case with neutral as not all GCL can be flat towed. Some owners have purchased lower trims and found out the hard way.

Old conversation I know, but I had my '22 in for service last week and they put in some updates which solved some issues for me, and I notice now that my wheel locks immediately when turning off the Jeep rather then eventually...
