RECALL - Y79/NHTSA 21V-873

I got this safety recall today.
The Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) module on your vehicle [1] may have the incorrect software. The airbag warning indicator may not illuminate to notify the operator of possible compromised airbag system functionality. If specific ORC internal faults are active, then a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) will not be set and the airbag warning indicator may not illuminate. The internal faults will disable deployment of both the driver and passenger airbag squib (related to airbag venting post deployment) and knee airbags. Reduced occupant protection in the event of a crash may result in an increased risk of injury to motor vehicle occupants.

@JeepCares This is getting absurd. My car is in the dealer right now with a plethora of problems.

1.) Active park assist doesnt work and errors out
2.) SOS call still throws error messages on its own and says to take in to service despite the OTA update
3.) Rear camera still will show a black screen despite the OTA and being built after the dates listed for a fix in the Recall
4.) Yesterday the entire electronic system (dash, uconnect) just shut down. Could drive but wipers came on at full speed despite being off

Took into dealer and they said there are no recalls on my vehicle and no safety concerns. That seems to be completely wrong. Also, they said they wont service my vehicle until middle of December! This is at the dealer I bought it from! Only have 500 miles on it and it has been less than a pleasant experience. So much for the Jeep Waves service because forget about a rental car.

If this continues I am done with this car. Love its potential, but it has to serve its function and be a safe, drivable vehicle.

I am getting cold feet with my pending SR order.. on FB some guy had two not one but two buybacks for issues with his JGC... from sensors to smelling wire burning others having several issues with Transmissions to tech
Are the forced MACK plant employees ( Stellantis was forced ) to hire a certain % of workers within a range of living within the MACK plant . maybe we have unskilled workers doing quality control, I assume Humans are doing this and not robotics..
I've never looked forward to getting a vehicle like this one... UGH This is getting ugly quick

@JeepCares this is absurd! So your telling me the airbag not deploying but not going to even notify dealers for another month! My car is already in service 2x for other issues, and now will be a 3rd? BUT MORE SO! AN AIRBAG NOT DEPLOYING IS ABSOLUTELY ABSURD!

I 100% agree. I was on the fence about taking it, and had been hearing all kinds of inappropriate behavior from workers at the MACK plant going on the line. When the car arrived I loved the look and the included tech. That was until all the tech stopped working... if you don't need the vehicle immediately, I would wait.

IMO there is no need to get overly excited about recall Y79. My understanding is the issue is IF there were a fault the airbag warning indicator may not illuminate. to alert you about the fault. IMO you don't need to wait until you receive a recall notice in the mail. as no parts are involved. Just call your dealer and ask for an appointment for recall Y79. My dealer looked it up and scheduled me for the same day.

Chronology :
• On September 29, 2021, FCA US LLC ("FCA US") Product Engineering was notified that, during a configuration review at the supplier for an unrelated manufacturing issue, an error was identified with one squib driver circuit that identified three associated internal faults not mapped to a DTC.
• On October 6, 2021, the FCA US Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance ("TSRC") organization opened an investigation and discovered that some 2021 MY Jeep Grand Cherokee L and 2022 MY Jeep Wagoneer and Jeep Grand Wagoneer vehicles may not set a DTC and the airbag warning indicator may not illuminate.
• As of November 4, 2021, FCA US has identified zero customer complaints, zero warranty claims, and zero field reports potentially related to this issue for all markets.
• As of November 4, 2021, FCA US is not aware of any accidents or injuries potentially related to this issue for all markets.
• On November 4, 2021, FCA US determined, through the Vehicle Regulations Committee, to conduct a voluntary safety recall of the affected vehicles.

Mine has now been at the dealer for over 20 days for Radio issues, missing apps, SOS errors, freezing and static coming out of speakers and lately the one of the dash boxes go static.
.
No idea when I will get it back yet.

Seems all owners are not getting this recall
Hi @mja997 ,
You can use the link below to check for open recalls for your vehicle. Recalls are VIN specific. If you are not included in the recall, then your vehicle is not affected by the recalled part.

Hi, sorry but I have had no luck with Jeep Cares and I know there is only so much you can do. Had this since end of July and it has been in service for over 20 days now just for radio/infotainment issues that Jeep does not seem to think this is any major issue but I am sorry, for a vehicle that I paid $50k for I except better. Missing and non-working apps, Hotspot not working, SOS issues, static coming out of all speakers, radio makes a loud buzz while driving and reboots and a few weeks ago the whole dashboard showed a static display until I could pull over and restart.
Jeep does not think this is distracting while driving and keeps telling me "there is a software update coming"..REALLY? how many updates does it take to get this corrected, I now hear another update is being worked on for noise cancelation issues causing static in some.

Sorry to hear yall are having some issues with your new vehicles, new21 GCL limited w 6k miles and so far only thing ive noticed is sometimes while on a call the static will interfere with phone call and just make a repetitive noise back n forth while on call then stops. Heard some people have loose modules in fuse box maybe connection is loose or faulty from jus parts being bad to begin with due to unforseen circumstances w storage or shipping from mfg. Hopefully they figure it out for y'all quick Def sucks. My u connect system has same reconnect issues w phone pairing at times seems better now.

My jeep will be in service 31 days of the 60 that I have owned it. Looking to see what options I have

My GC L Overland 4x4 has been in service for 40 days now. I only put 411 miles on it before encountering failure to reengage drive train after having transfer case in Neutral for flat-towing. Dealer has replaced transfer case actuator and the transfer case. No joy. They tried the owner manual procedure on identically equipped GC L's in their lot and had same failure. Jeep engineers seem stumped. Bad news for anyone who hoped to use a GC L for recreational towing dingy vehicle.
