Navi-Screen too bright?

Hi folks,

So today was finally the day: Picked up the new GC L SR and drove it back home (pics will follow soon) .I bought it out of State so it was a 600 mile trip.

The darker it got, obviously, the brighter the NAV/center display appeared and to a certain degree, the speedometer, too. The headlight switch was set to "Auto" and the screen brightness to "Automatic", too, so I assumed the moment the headlights turned on automatically, the screens would dim.

Unfortunately, they did not and I was forced to switch the display setting to "manual" and select level 5 as brightness when the headlights were on. Guess what? Nothing changed!

Next, I turned the headlight dial from Auto one position to the left which is regular on. Now, the speedometer dimmed down to the manual setting of 5 but once again, the NAV-screen in the center remained super bright. I was actually forced to shut the screen off by pushing the physical display off-button.

What could be the reason for that? Is there a setting I'm missing?

Thanks in advance!

The roller switch down next to your headlights is probably set to max. Roll it one click down. This will make it auto dim when the headlights turn on like you would normally expect.

....and we have a winner!

Thank you, SweetAndLow, you were spot on. Just a klick down on the RIGHT dial did the trick!

I was close by initially playing with the LEFT one. Stupid me!:p

I did that and worked just fine. The center console navigation display switched to a night mode, but the driver's instrument cluster is so dark now, I can barely read it. How to keep it bright while the center navigation display is on night mode, please? Thanks.

That roller changes brightness, just move it until you get what you want. There is a click at the top that forces bright that's the setting that causes issues at night so avoid that. There is also a second roller wheel that might do something you need.

There is a problem with the system. On mine the uconnect is always too bright. Rolling it down dins the dash but not the uconnect screen. If i roll it all the way up into the indent and then back down (after a moment of intense brightness!) the dimmer works as it should. For whatever reason until i put it in the full bright setting the dimmer doesnt work. Have to do it every evening. Shouldn‘t be that way.

Double check you have your brightness set to auto in uconnect.

Brightness setting that i found is set to auto in uconnect. Tried to set to manual and then back again but no difference. Strange!

I agree with this. I have not found a way to make it work well. In bright daylight no issues but as soon as it is low light (dusk/dawn) or dark of night, the system sucks at getting the brightness right. Scroll wheel doesn’t affect the nav screen and on automatic the nav screen is always too bright.

Why can’t they just tie the nav screen into the dimmer scroll wheel. That would see to be perfect as I can get the dash to the right brightness using it.

That's what I initially tried as well. The fix is playing with the two little wheels to the right of the light switch.

It actually has its own dimmer scroll wheel. That's what I did not realize first.

Negative, it does not.

I am yet to understand the logic behind all of it because it seems with auto headlights the scroll wheels do one thing and when you switch manually to headlights (not auto) then the wheel controls different things. Being that I drive on auto most of the time I just want that one to work, I do not understand why the dimmer wheel dims everything else except the nav screen.

OK, so here is my set-up and how it works (well) on mine. The first picture shows the light switch with the two wheels next to it. The one closer to the switch (left wheel) controls ambient light. I have that set to max, all the way up. I initially had the right wheel all the way up over the incline. This keeps the speedometer and nav screen on max which is too bright. At the same time, it turns off the ambient light. I have it set all the way up to the incline (but obviously not above that). I have the settings in Auto as well as the light switch and all is working now.20211112_215316.jpg20211112_215451.jpg

I do have both wheels. What I was saying is that the s come dimmer switch does not affect the nav brightness at all. I also have mine set to auto in the control panel. The dimmer switch does dim the dash (speedo) screen, all the buttons and dials that illuminate, and I think the cup holder light but now I am not certain about that last one...but does not affect the nav brightness.

I am away from the vehicle for a few days so when I get back I will post a complete situation.

if i start the engine and it is dark then i have to play with the dimmer knob (all thenway bright and then back down). Noticed that if the sun sets while i am driving the screen will dim to its previously set dimmer position. Strange that it only works correctly in that situation.

So is does everyone else’s dimmer wheel dim both the dashboard and the connect screen at the same time when the lights are on and the settings option is set to automatic? Because I have confirmed that my dimmer wheel only dims the dashboard (speedometer...) and the auxiliary buttons back lights but does not dim the nav screen.
