Left Front Speaker

I have a reoccurring issue where the car starts and there is no sound from the left front speaker. You can confirm by using the fade/balance settings and pulling the control up to the top left hand corner with then zero sound. At some point in the drive, it comes back on and I can’t figure out the pattern.

I have seen posts here from others saying they replaced a blown left front speaker and on Facebook saying they have the same issue. The Facebook posts are both Alpine like mine and the McIntosh. It feels to me like a software issue vs hardware since the speaker comes back on and impacting at least two of the speaker options.

How many of us are having this issue?

Mine does that with Waze on wireless CarPlay. However one it starts giving you directions, the front left speaker comes back on

I agree it sounds software related. My left speaker turns off for Waze directions and any other CarPlay sound. Even Facebook, Instagram notifications etc. Could be something phone related that’s preventing it from coming on when you start the vehicle.

Ok, so this Waze usage is interesting as I’ve always used it while Waze is on. But I have Waze muted and I’m using the car radio and I still have this left speaker issue at start, but then eventually starts working.

Hello there--

We heard your concerns and we have some questions. Do you notice that your left speaker works intermittently when connected through a cable or wirelessly? If it's while connected through a cable, are these concerns present only in specific ports or with specific apps?

Let us know!

I had the same happen to me yesterday. Phone was plugged in through the usb port and waze was not on but the carplay button was on the uconnect screen. No music (satellite, am or fm) through the left front speakers (door and dash). I went to carplay and started playing some music (from my phone) and the left front started to work. Worked for all sources after this.

I did some more testing. When I start the car with XM as the source and no phone connected, all speakers work. As soon as an iPhone is connected via CarPlay (wireless or USB) the left front speaker stops. The radio source is not changed during this time. Just the presence of the wired or wireless CarPlay connection causes the speaker to stop. Eventually it comes back on, but I haven’t yet figured out that pattern.

I have the same issue, sometimes when I turn the car and the audio source is at the XM, then the left front speaker has not audio.
If I change the audio source to carplay or I disconnect Carplay from the device manager, then I get left front speaker works.
I use the wireless carplay.

Normally the left front speaker it's the one used for the carplay audio messages, notifications, etc. (Waze, whatsapp).
So seems that UConnect gets stuck waiting for some of those notifications to finish or something.

I’ve had this problem since day one. It has persisted through both software updates. For me, it happens when my phone is wirelessly connected via Apple CarPlay and Waze is open. The problem persists if an address is inputted via iPhone. The only two ways I’ve managed to fix it is by rebooting the screen/unit, or by using the microphone (top right in the Waze vehicle interface).

Have the same issues as mentioned previously with left front speaker on McIntosh system. Took it to dealer and they were not able to replicate and found software up to date. Also has been persistent since first few days of ownership. Agreed that it is likely software related, so hoping for a permanent fix in the near future with a future software patch. Wondering if this type of issue will start manifesting in the new JGCs beginning to roll out?

@JeepCares, So to be clear, you wish to work on car audio speaker issues but not safety features malfunctioning and center stacks rebooting?

Sorry for the hijack, been busy spending thousands forming my legal case. Pardon my annoyance.

I also have this issue. I thought I was losing my mind. When car play connects my left side driver speakers don't work. The only way to fix is to disconnect car play and then reconnect. I took it to the dealership and also have a video of my moving the speakers around on a song and when I move it to the driver's speaker it goes silent. They said they can't fix it and it is probably a future software update, but it's really annoying. Also have lots of black screens on car play like when I'm driving the screen will go black and then pop back up. It'd definitely very glitchy and buggy and I'm really annoyed by it.
