Screenshot_20210801-135047.pngif true I am upset. Advanced hands-free L2 automated driving system will be available in late 2021 on the 2022 Grand Cherokee L. not the 2021... Or on certain 2021 models (overland and summit) after the rollout date but not back compatible where you could take it into the dealer and have them update your software? Crazy, hope I'm reading wrong source.

I am kind of glad 2021 does not have "Advanced hands free L2 automated driving" tbh. I much rather have a finger on the steering wheel then have a camera constantly monitor my eyes making sure I am looking at the road lol I test drove a Cadillac with their Super Cruise and it was really annoying to always look straight forward at the road.

I know people get upset with FOMO of a new feature but sometimes you have to think about the practicality of the said new feature. When sitting in a car, your body is just naturally positioned to rest a few fingers on the bottom of the steering wheel. I rather do that then be forced to look straight the whole time lol.
Even if you are trying to take "advantage" of the system and don't want to pay attention to the road, I rather my eyes be freed up so I can watch youtube or talk to people in the 2nd row compared to having my hands freed. What can you possible do with having your two hands free that is more entertaining than watching Netflix with your eyes on a long roadtrip? 🤣

Just talked to some of my insider friends... it looks like only the 2022 Grand Cherokee L models will have the Hands-Free system.

It will be available later this year with an over-the-air update

So, to be crystal clear:

2021 GCL (WL75) will have OTA update available to get it later in the year
2022 GCL (WL75) will come from the factory with it (as appropriate with the trim level)
2022 GC (WL74) will come from the factory with it (as appropriate with the trim level)

Dont think it will be available with current 2021 GCLs. There are no obvious interior cameras pointed at the driver and no IR cameras either. Those are need to make sure the driver is paying attention. After using my active driver assist and lightly putting one finger on the bottom of the wheel..... I dont know if i will actually miss anything. I thought about waiting for a 2022/late 2021 GCL but this chip shortage doesnt seem to be getting any better. Plus, this is my wife's car and she will never use any of it anyways.

:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: Why do ALL wives waste amazing technologies? Mine is the same way.

I don’t see a definitive answer either way in this thread. Guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Active Driving Assist is the Jeep brand's name for Level 2 (L2) automated driving capability and the technology affirms the company’s march toward an autonomous future. The Grand Cherokee L is available with Active Driving Assist for hands-on-wheel and eyes-on-road automated driving using lane-centering with adaptive cruise control. The system uses multiple sensors, including radars and cameras to dictate appropriate roads for the technology. Active Driving Assist is available on Overland and standard on Summit models.

Hands-free Active Driving Assist is the Jeep brand's name for hands-free L2 assisted driving and will be available in late 2021 for 2022 model-year Grand Cherokee L Overland and Summit models. It offers hands-free driving at all speeds and lane centering on approved roadways for even greater driving convenience. The system also will predictively slow the vehicle down in tight curves and automatically resume control after the driver overrides and verifies that he or she is paying attention to the road.

So is the hands free the same as the current ADA just no longer have to have hand on wheel, but have to be looking properly like in Cadillac? If so I might agree with the light touch with one hand being better

Where did you get the 2021 info?

I was just trying to get it all in one place and confirmed by redriderbob. I believe the 2021 will not have the update available based on what I've seen/read, I was hoping to just get the things clearly defined by someone in the know. The info is always so pieced together it adds to the confusion... unfortunately, my attempt to clarify has not been ignored, so it has not actually clarified anything.
