Forward Collision Warning

Guess what happened when I approached it at 15mph? Nothing happen and proves this system does not work.
Unfortunately, that doesn't prove that the system doesn't work as it was designed. It just proves that it doesn't work the way you expect it to. We don't really know what the design parameters are for the system to engage. I think what this does show, is that there is a problem in the industry which leaves safety parameters up to manufacturers rather than the consumer.

My forward collision warning system surprised me and worked today. (Funny, I was staring at a new Wagoneer I was passing.). The car I front of me hit the brakes and the warning signal alarmed. I hit the brakes myself when I heard the alarm. I am pleased that my system is working now. (I don’t think it was before.). I suspect it may be working now because of the computer update. (I was in the shop last week getting a hitch installed and they updated the computer.). No more staring at wagoneers (or ladies) for me.

Thanks for this update! Do you have a pic of all the work your dealer did? Specifically looking to see what computer updates was done.

They just did the software update that everyone was talking about. As to the hitch, they installed an aftermarket one (Curt brand) because the Jeep hitches are back ordered till late may. Looks fine, fits behind the bumper. There was no wiring behind the bumper and they told me >$1k for the wiring. I’m going to dyi an aftermarket 4 pole wiring harness from etrailer for a little over $100 (splices into tail light wires).

Just got my L back today after the dealer had it for 2.5 weeks. Aside from the 3 other issues they worked on, they checked out the advanced braking system and Jeep Cares was following up with them. My paperwork states they did all they did before - ran diagnostics, they say I have the latest software version, but no way to do a "real life" test. So I guess for now I have to go with the notion of seeing if any situations come up that may kick the system into its proper working mode.

Mine turns itself off sometimes for no reason (warning light on dash). After replacing my Uconnect 'ecu', I haven't noticed it turn off on its own. Whether it works or not, I'm not sure, as I'm too afraid to 'test' it, and not sure what parameters are for engagement.

I purchased the GCL Limited in November. It has 2976 miles on it. Forward collision warning is activated, but its does not work. Has anyone else noticed it?
I bought my GCL on December 23, 2021 and it has never worked. Several weeks ago I was on the freeway driving at 80 mph and the guy in front of me did a hard brake and my system didn't warn/detect anything and the brakes were activated. If I had been distracted, I would have crashed into the guy. I have taken the car into the dealership twice, did a test drive with the service advisor and he agreed the system doesn't work but after they kept the car for about 3 days they told me they ran a diagnostic and checked it with Jeep engineering and the system was operating "as designed". I gave up.

Don't hate me for saying the obvious... but did you use the right cruise control button? There are two, one is the Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and the other regular old Cruise Control.
That being said, I only use the regular, the ACC is kinda crazy on what it thinks is an emergency and hits the breaks way too hard. I think they forgot people might be behind you. Sometimes acceleration is a better choice than hard braking.

I think Forward collision & braking should work with both cruise controls.

I would think it’s supposed to work regardless of any cruise control even being turned on?

Even if using standard non-ACC cruise, if it’s enabled in the system settings, it should work?

It's easy enough to test... get on a highway, use the regular cruise and see if it slows you down as you close on the car in front. Mine doesn't. The ACC one does (just a bit more aggressively than I'd like). My 2020 Mustang does it nicely... so much so, that I hardly recognize I've slowed down (the fun part is moving to the empty lane and hearing that engine roar back to speed).

Yes I understand that, but what I mean is it should brake on its own in case of emergency regardless of any cruise setting and if cruise is off too.

I was for sure that mine FCW did not work. Since a bought the vehicle months ago it has never worked. That ended today. Doing approximately 40mph the car in front of my slammed on the brakes to make a sudden turn and the system kicked right in and worked as designed. How consistent it is still unsure.

No worries. I was not using cruise control. I had to brake because all the lanes on the freeway had traffic so my only option was to brake hard or crash. I chose to brake and drove away without a scratch. I was just upset that the Forward Collision system in the car did not work. No alerts, no braking, nothing but according to Jeep "the system is operating as designed".

Agreed, Hamada. The system should brake the car on it's own regardless of the cruise setting or if the cruise control is off. I did a test of the system to see if the car would brake on it's own when the Adaptive CC is on and it does brake the car. It's a little aggressive in the way it brakes but at least it stops the car so I know that system works.

You would think if your ACC cruise works all the time, this would as well, at least as far as the sensor goes. In my experience with other systems on my car, though, electrical/software problems happen completely at random, and often leave no trace as far as error codes are concerned. I've had my FCW error light come on quite a few times, but it seems to he better with the latest software release.
