FCA Recall # Y67 - NHTSA Recall # 21V-729

Hello everyone, short update about this recall. I’m in Canada, Ontario, Greater Toronto Area and got an appointment for software update today. However they were not able to execute the update claiming that 2 part of the files are still not available from Chrysler (??) and suggested to do it later during oil change. Did anyone experience the same or it’s just incompetent folks at my Dealership?
1632920077173.pngSorry to hear that you ran into those concerns while trying to get your recall properly addressed. A revision was made to the recall, which should help alleviate the chance of any concerns arising while updating your system. If you'd like additional support alongside your dealer visit, feel free to reach out to our team!
Can anyone confirm that this update fixes the no cellular connection/assist/sos button issues some are having?

Exactly what I want to know. Mine gets done tomorrow morning and this is now the third time into the dealer for radio/uconnect.
Hello,

More information on the recent Recall Y67 can be found at www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html. You'll simply input your VIN and the site will explain in more detail the importance of this recall and what it addresses.

Took my Jeep in this morning for the update.
They still have it because of the issues I had with the radio before and I guess the update did not fix them. They said that Jeep engineering is involved.
I may get it back tomorrow.

Hi everyone,

We came across this thread and we wanted to offer our knowledge! Uconnect sends Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) updates to vehicles equipped with built-in cellular modem to add new features or fix software bugs. FOTAs are sent regionally and are dependent on the vehicle being within range of a U.S. or Canadian cellular network. However, your preferred dealer is capable of performing a manual update as well.
“sent regionally.”
  • Does this mean US and Canada or ? How do I know when my region’s update is available?
  • Are these updates slowly rolled out (i.e. by VIN #) or does everyone get it at the same time?
  • What network does the cellular modem connect to? AT&T or Verizon?
I live in an area where cell service is very weak and no data service.
  • Will the FOTA update download when connected to Wi-Fi when there is no cell reception?
  • Will the FOTA update download when driving in areas that do have good cell reception?
  • How often does the radio check for FOTA updates and when does it check (i.e., only while parked, at night, after each startup?)

Actually, it was really strange.. i parked my car switched off the engine and got a message on the radio about the fact that some of the services would not be available because of updates.. then it switched off, i closed car and left it as is till next day. on next morning i checked the radio version and it showed the number which was shared here on one of the screenshots.. i also got Offroad Pages back too..

My car updated OTA today. The new software version is 8.1.0:FCA-MY21.R17.98-PROD. I don’t know what has changed yet since I haven’t driven the car since the update.

Great questions, Mike! I'd be happy to break this down for you. In an effort to avoid overpowering the cell towers, FOTA updates are not rolled out to all VINs at once. It's generally a bit regional, but not always. Since updates are only received when a vehicle is in range of US or Canadian cellular network, the system will require enough time within range of strong cell reception. It's dependent on whether the radio itself is regularly checking into the cloud FOTA servers to see if an update is available. Once a software update is available, the system will need good cell coverage to fully download the software update to the infotainment unit. Once it downloads, that's when the pop up notification will be seen.

Any customer that meets the parameters for the applicable software update will have the opportunity to update their Uconnect system to the intended level. Unfortunately some of the best places have the worst cell service, so I understand your pain. The great news is, FOTA updates are often available as a manual download at your dealership and our teams can get additional support arranged for you if they are located far away and you would like to ensure that your time is valued. We recommend contacting your dealer ahead of time to determine if a manual update is possible at their location. If you need additional assistance, send us a private message.

After FOTA Update Completes:
  • Deep Sleep Mode
    • We recommend customers wait about 40 minutes with their vehicle OFF (and with key fobs away from vehicle). This allows the radio to enter a "deep sleep" mode, and will provide the best outcome in allowing radio to finish FOTA download process without interruption.
  • App-Over-The-Air (AOTA)
    • AOTA will trigger, which refreshes internal radio apps. During this update time, as radio syncs with the cloud, you may notice that some apps and other connected services work intermittently.
It's important to note that your "Engine/Key Off" settings should be adjusted so that your Uconnect 5 system remains on after you cycle off the ignition. In other words, it allows your Uconnect 5 time to stop thinking about your vehicle's operation and gives it time to search for possible updates, instead.
Radio Off DelayThis setting will keep the radio on for the selected amount of time after vehicle shut off. The available options are “0 sec”, “45 sec”, “5 min”, and “10 min”.

My car updated OTA today. The new software version is 8.1.0:FCA-MY21.R17.98-PROD. I don’t know what has changed yet since I haven’t driven the car since the update.
Know that you can visit www.mopar.com/en-us/my-vehicle/recalls/search.html to input your VIN and learn more about any recalls that may be applicable to your vehicle. Prompted by a small number of blank-screen reports, FCA US launched an investigation that identified a software issue and ultimately led to the development and validation of a reflash that helps ensure normal function. Stellantis issued Safety Recall Y67 that calls for an update software (R17.98) that accommodates backup-camera display function. You can find more on the symptoms addressed, below.
  • May malfunction during shutdown and fail to produce a display on the radio screen during subsequent key cycles.
  • Rearview image may not displayed if attempting to reference the image while in reverse
  • This update may also help with:
    • Apple Carplay/Android Auto Inoperable
    • Language in Italian
    • Radio Resets
    • Bluetooth Disconnecting
    • Blank Screen
    • Screen Slow to Respond/Lockup
    • Radio inoperative
I hope this helps!

Does this pertain to the 8.4in screen on the Altitudes? Will the software be updated for them as well. It seems that my software is a pre released version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What about roll out of the update via WiFi?
FOTAs that are downloaded via WiFi work in a similar fashion. You would simply ignore the bits about being within good cell coverage. However, you will still have to wait for the FOTA to be rolled out to your VIN/ area.

There are recent software updates for various Uconnect models! Follow up with us privately so we can request your VIN and software information. We can look into any applicable updates for your vehicle.

Thanks,
