Disable out of vehicle with fob honk?

It's the most horribly obnoxious feature ever. Imagine camping with other people around, or living in an apartment/condo complex or high density neighborhood... it's absolutely reprehensible. Makes me want to cut the wires to my horn and install a custom horn.

While 3 honks is excessive, I think this was added to prevent the hazard of people unknowingly leaving their car on, pumping Carbon Monoxide into their garage and homes, having caused several deaths in the past few years since cars became keyless.
I think the solution should be a bypass, Be Right Back button to inform the system that you know you're leaving the car running. Or it could at least wait 5 minutes to start honking, and maybe then, a couple times every 5 minutes.

Finally heard back from my dealer today and he said they don't have any way of disabling it at this time, but others are complaining about it too :(

I'm guessing it's based on measured weight in one of the seats. If the criteria is that one of the 4 seats needs to be occupied, maybe a 30-50 lbs weight in one would disable it.

It is based on the vehicle running and whether the key fob is in the vehicle or not.

They need to add a polite, more pleasant, soft 'chirp' horm (like BMW and others use). It's not that expensive, and everything is controlled on the bus system so a few lines of code and a low powered 'chirping' speaker for lock/unlock, etc would be very, very welcome by all.

The fob would still be out of the vehicle.

My 2019 GC does this.

Following along as I patiently await my WL74 Summit, so I can’t troubleshoot on my own.

Reading the manual (online) I am wondering if you turn off all horn beeps for remote start, sound horn with lower, with lock, etc.

Basically remove the horn for all other functions. Just a thought

Nope.

It's a 'lawyers' thing - ie liability. They just need a secondary 'chirp' alarm instead of using the FULL BLAST HORN HONK HONK HONK. That or someone should be selling coding software to kill it?

I have them all off, first thing I did when I got it.

To be honest, I don't think it's "full blast" horn, I think it's somewhat muted, but still way too much.

It is not muted actually, it is full horn but very short duration. Similar when you tap the horn briefly when the car in front of you forget to move when the light is green.

You might be right, I just know it scares the crap out of me everytime it happens. You would think I would have learned to remember it was coming by now...

So I got my first oil change yesterday and gave them my list of issues. They told me that they couldn't do anything for the horn honking, but they did some other updates which fixed some issues, and now the triple horn honk only happens when the car is is in "Run" and you get out and close the door. It no longer honks when you remote start the car and open / close a door or the hatch, so that's a big improvement for me...

That's good to hear. Mine honks at any opportunity - FOB still in car, FOB not in car, anytime I get out and shut the door with the engine still running. It's so bad I just want to disable the horn altogether.

The '23 does this? I've never had it beep with the fob in the car, but it not honking on remote start is a big win for me.
