Disable out of vehicle with fob honk?

So I picked up my GCL last night and noticed pretty quickly that they added a lovely feature that when you exit your vehicle with the engine running while carrying the fob, it full volume honks 3 times at you to let you know that you left the car with the engine running. I guess this may be great for some people, but this is incredibly stupid to me. It used to just Chime once, which I didn't need either, but I was completely ok with, but 3 honks at 1 in the morning when I get out to open my garage door every time is pretty ridiculous. Anybody know of a way to disable this? I asked me dealer and he's investigating...

Don't shut you door is one option, leave keys in car is another.

There is no way to disable it in the settings

It just seems like a bad idea to leave your fob in the running car when you're out of it, it's not a habit I'd want to learn. I'm not positive what I did last night, but I think I did leave the door open and it beeped anyway, I kind of remember it beeping as I was walking around the open door but I'll have to verify that.

Yeah I already went through all the settings, I'm hoping it's a secret procedure that you can do like how you used to be able to disable the seat belt alerts, or at least maybe the dealer can do it.

You can shut your door just not to the point of completely latched. I agree it’s a pain and there should be a way to disable it or change it to maybe that beep the trunk does when it’s opening.

For the previous 100y if you wanted to get out of your car with it running you had to leave the keys in. Why does the change now?

I am hoping there ends up being a way to disable this as well. so far in the 10 days i have owned my GCL this is the one thing that is irritating me. especially that it occurs when vehicle is remote started.

Because doors lock by themselves automatically now. Granted, I don't think it's set to do that, but there are more computers in this thing controlling everything and anything, so I keep the fob in my pocket.

Here's the annoying thing. I remote start my car (because it's 10 degrees outside), a few minutes later I approach and open the rear door to place my laptop bag inside, I close rear door... HONK HONK HONK. What the hell?
Yeah, same thing - super annoying. I just came back from the dealer and he agreed it was super annoying but they just don't know much about the L's yet. he's going to look into for me...

Ditto for being an annoying feature, but what I really don't understand why my Overland will still honk 3X when I enter the car and close the driver's door after opening/closing the trunk door (car is OFF and it honks, key fob is with me inside the car)??

I believe there is a setting in the main screen that beeps or alerts in some manor when you open the tailgate. I don't know what it sounds like because I had disabled it before I opened the tailgate :)

That is an odd and annoying feature, especially to honk 3 times. There is some condition in the WK GC that causes a single honk, I never noticed what the exact sequence was that caused it, but there wasn't even a use for that single honk, other than to prompt an apology to those who may have been standing next to it. This "feature" was either the result of overthinking or thoughtlessness. I can't imagine there's any regulation that requires this, so there really should be a way to disable it.

You must have a different car because my doors don't automatically lock and especially don't lock if the key is inside.

That is the beeping sound when opening or closing the trunk hatch itself.
I am talking about getting the 3 honks by the car horn (not beeping sound) and while the car is still off.
Here is the sequence:
- Car is OFF & locked.
- I walk to the rear to put something in the trunk, open then close the trunk hatch.
- Walk to the driver's door, open it then sit inside.
- Close the driver's door (trunk is closed or almost closing).
- 3 honks (car is still off).

So is it reminding me that it is time to start the engine now? :)

So it's worse than I thought... It also honks if I remote start, open the tailgate to put stuff in the back, and then close the tailgate... Awful.
Yes, that happens to me too.
Also if I remote start it, then put my son on the rear seat and close the rear door will honk 3X.

The 3 honks is the worst "feature". I scared the crap out of this girl walking in front of my car in the parking garage the other day when I put my bag in the 2nd row, then closed the door. She gave me the evilest look as though to say, "what the heck are you doing??" People think I don't know how to work my vehicle or something.

What exactly is the 3-honk warning supposed to be telling the driver? Why can't we put items in the cargo area, or the second row, after a remote start?

It is telling you that your vehicle is running and the key fob is not present. Hopefully this is something that can be disabled in the future.
At least that an explanation of how they thought it could possibly be useful. But it seems that it is more often an annoyance, (especially 3 times which shows that it's not accidental), than a helpful reminder to those who can't tell that their car is still running. I imagine this is to avoid the keyless entry tragedies that have caused CO2 poisining and even killed people who had them running in their garage overnight. But there are also many intentional reasons to be outside of the car when it's running. The best solution would be a BRB button, preferably hardware, that confirms, for that parking duration, that you know it's on and you'll be right back.
