Thanks...very helpful!Attached are some pics of factory cross bars with a Thule Motion XT XL cargo box.
👍For this particular cargo box, the rear cross bar has to be mounted in the position closer to the front of the vehicle (their are two rear mounting positions). There is plenty of clearance for the rear cargo hatch to open and the box does not block the shark fin antenna.
Specs on the stock cross bars call for them to be torqued to 7 Nm (5.16 ft lb / 61.95 in-lb).
This is a very similar setup that I am looking into. Do you know if the XXL box will fit on our Jeep or find the XL fits well?Attached are some pics of factory cross bars with a Thule Motion XT XL cargo box.
I almost bought the XXL, but decided against it at the last minute. I believe the XXL will fit the roof of the WL Jeep and can be positioned such that the rear hatch will open without clearance problems. This is a very similar setup that I am looking into. I’m planning on going the stock cross bars due to the reasons you mentioned. Yakima is pricier and I emailed Thule and they don’t have anything to offer as of yet. My concern with it was being able to clear my garage door when installed. I wanted to be able to load from inside the garage and drive in and out without worry. When I calculated the height of the Jeep, the height of the factory bars and the height of the XXL, it was to close for comfort. The XL that I ended up buying clears my garage door no problem. It is possible some of the after market cross bars offered (or will be offered in the future) will help lower the overall height.
Seemed like the Yakima cross bar setup was about double the price of the factory Jeep bars. I don't believe Thule had part numbers for cross bars fitting the WL Jeep when I was looking to buy in early September.
Thule USA was out of stock back in September too. Thule also appears to add a $150 oversize shipping and handling fee. I found the XL in stock at etrailer.com out of Missouri with free freight shipping to my home. The box arrived three weeks later well packaged and in perfect condition. Based on this and other purchases made from this company, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. They also have helpful information and videos related to the products they sell.I’m planning on going the stock cross bars due to the reasons you mentioned. I chose that style cross bar over the Mopar OEM or Yakima because I didn’t like the height of the Mopar bars or the cost of Yakima. Despite being sourced in China they have a better quality materials (all aluminum, no plastic) and finish (lightly textured black). The HW is all stainless. The lower profile clears the tilting sunroof in my SR but you need to be careful with clearance of clamping attachments. At $200 on Amazon it was worth a chance and I’m happy.I believe Mopar crossbars are great for the brand, but I found more options of crossbars on YouTube.
