Apple CarPlay Issues

Hello all!
We just got a Grand Cherokee L, and immediately we’re having issues with Apple CarPlay - both plugged in and wireless. The sound quality is poor - lots of crackling and distortion. There is also a significant delay when changing songs. I’ve updated to the latest IOS on the phone, restarted my phone and the u connect system several times, but nothing has helped. Anyone else had these issues and found solutions? Thanks!

Welcome! Just about everyone here has this issue. There is another thread related to it somewhere. @JeepCares has responded, and stated that a software update to address this issue should be available through your dealer, or over the air in a few weeks.

I’d like to add that not everyone is having this exact issue. My CarPlay sounds fantastic both wired and wireless (sounds better then SiriusXM) and there is no delay. This has been day once since getting out GCL in July. Now I have had issues with CarPlay disconnecting and not reconnecting when leaving the car while it’s running with my phone. This happens every now and then but a simple restart of UConnect fixes it. Definitely advise bringing up the other issues to your dealer.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for tagging us and bringing this to our attention @jeffrow ! @WR21GCL would be correct to say that not everyone is having the same concerns. The resolution may be as simple as enabling additional settings that were accidentally overlooked or it may be a software update, etc. This is why our teams might request that you send us more information about your specific situation. If you're interested in our support, send us that private message with your VIN and we'd be happy to help!

Thanks,

Courtney

I just got the update from my Dealer this past Monday and I can report that CarPlay seems to be a little more stable but now SiriusXM will randomly drop until I turn the vehicle off then back on. I also now have a lovely static/distortion sound coming from the Macintosh speakers that was not there previously there. I'm really starting the miss the old Uconnect system and the Harmen Kardan sound in my 2018 High Altitude. No excuses for these issues in 2021 model year car.

A mouse playing the violin in a tin can sounds better than satellite radio lol the compression is horrific, it's like listening to over the air radio from a speaker in a paper bag!

You are not wrong! I actually find FM HD radio to sound better than SiriusXM. It’s a shame actually, especially for what they want to charge you for it.

That’s a great point about he prices! What I’ve had success with is getting a streaming only package for 5 bucks a month which is all I find it to be worth. And I agree, HD FM sounds great! We are lucky to have an HD Alt Rock station here that sounds pretty great.

Good morning I am also having the same issues with CarPlay since day one of purchase of my L and I’ve been to Apple store and on phone with Apple support so it’s not the phone. I have the 13pro max
