2021 vs. 2022

Hello! I am and have been ready to place an order for a GCL Summit Reserve w/5.7. However, I wanted to see the new body style in person before I bit the bullet. By the time I was able to see/drive the car with my own eyes (two weeks ago), and hemmed and hawwed over what color combo for probably too long thereafter, I now find myself caught in a funny in between place with respect to 2021 vs. 2022. If I place an order for a new build today, it will still be a 2021 which while technically makes no real difference, given that all other new vehicles out there now are 2022, it seems silly for me to order a 2021. Plus, I have been wanting to see whether additional exterior paint color options are available for the 2022, which I expect there will be, given my indecision on the (slim) 2021 color options. My dealer got new allocation today. Leading up to today, they thought today would be the day new builds would switch over to 2022, but it has not. A new order today will still be a 2021. Does anyone have any idea when it will switch over? How often does dealer allocation occur? I am chomping at the bit to get this build underway before my 2012 Overland Summit, which is now out of extended warranty, potentially needs work, has even more miles on it, and thus either takes funds away that could go to the new Jeep and/or loses value as I was ready to do this trade-in before the pandemic but that was not an option for obvious reasons. Just wondering how it all works, if anyone has inside scoop as to when it will change over and how often dealer allocation takes place, so I can decide whether or not to just go ahead with a 2021 build. Or rather, if it’s only going to be, say, another week or two, then at this point perhaps I should dig deep for any potential remaining tidbits of patience and hold out for a 2022 that may offer some additional optionality around exterior color, and/or other things. Thanks for the insight!

Is it possible your dealer was talking about the pending release of the 2022 GC 2-door (WL74)? If not, this would be the first I’ve heard of a ‘22 GCL (WL75) release date even being discussed, and would also mean your dealer is ahead of Stellantis marketing dept.

There was an allocation call today with dealers for WL75. It was delayed from last week.
2021 will still be available for orders until August, at that point the 2022 will become available.
Unfortunately there's no more details on what this means, if they will open new colors to be available with 2022 or additional options (two tone on the Overland, Lux for Limited, etc)

Anyone with inside info that can share when the 2022 allocation will start and what will be different from the '21 options? Pricing?

Yes I am absolutely sure it’s the GCL. We have been taking about this for months and are already settled on price, etc.

I think they're doing the next class of autonomous driving (hands off instead of hands on) which usually requires sensors that sense your eyes. I'm not sure if the '21 have these sensors and they need to be activated so you just pay for the software, or if they aren't even equipped.

The colors are a mystery, but this has more than just the five colors

The anticipation of knowing 22 has to be around the corner yet every dealer i talk to discourages me and says it'll be a long while yet.

that's expected.
Why would most of them tell you to wait when they have stock at the lot or in transit of the MY21?
Part of their problem now is that many dealers are trying to mark up above MSRP. When they see MY22 available for preorder they will start negotiating to get the '21s out of their lots

Absolutely agree but I'm ordering one regardless. Id rather give my business to an honest dealer than one that would rather sell from the lot and lie about dates. I get the tactic but its shady to me.

Anything other then hands free for summit reserve 2022 vs 2021? Debating if hands free is even better then lightly touching the wheel? Anyone have thoughts?

so it appears that the 10.25” infotainment system that’s embedded in the passenger dash (same system in Wagoneers) will be a ‘22 option, but it currently seems to be tied exclusively to the 4xe version. Not sure if that will change, we won’t know until we see the build sheets on/around 3 September.

hands-on while touching the wheel is all roads. Hands-free will only be available on the 2022 and is on limited roads only(geofenced). I dont think the light touch is bad at all in order to enable it on any road.

That is the GCL. Dealers can order the GC now
Thanks. I decided to wait for 2022 so I am anxious to order. But I am worried about the lack of eLSD that is happening. I am planning to order a SR w/V8. Any word on whether the eLSD and other features they recently deleted will be back for 2022 orders on 9/3 and thereafter? I will not be happy if I can’t order (and take delivery) of my GCL WITH what’s supposed to be standard Quadra-Drive II.

No idea. They updated the website on the 2021 and it now states Quadra-Trac II as standard NOT QDII. Let's hope they bring it back for 2022.

We are now planning to wait till Sept 3 to place an order for the 2022 GCL SR V8. We were originally planning to order the 2021, but now that the V8s have taken so long, we are just going to wait for the 22. I know the dealer has every reason to talk us out of the 22, but they brought up the idea that Jeep may delay the V8s again and prioritize the V6s come November. Anyone know if this is true?

As far back as May I noticed that the build sheet/sticker said QTII w/ rear eLSD and never said QDII… even though ALL the marketing stuff going back to January said QDII. Others on the forum explained that QTII with eLSD was the same as QDII but it always nagged at me that they never just came out and called it QDII. Guess now it’s all moot. It’s a real bummer.

Right but back in May the standard was the 230mm Rear Axle with eLSD... Now it states the 195mm axle with conventional diff
