WL74 roof line gap

Why is there a gap at the bottom of the roof line on the 2 row, WL74? I know it's part of the lower end Compass design, but it's an odd incongruity. Maybe it's supposed to make it look like a cape, but how does that exude the ruggedness of this brand. Their previous design was a masterpiece with very purposeful lines. I don't mind the new, meaner looking front grill, and even the narrow slits for the tail lights, but what's the point of disconnecting the flow of the roof line for a little chunk of plastic? Hopefully they can adjust that in a future design. Maybe to something more like this:

It’s Jeep’s floating roofline. A purposeful design element
The idea of a floating element seems inconsistent with the theme of a durable, road griipping vehicle, and kind of tacked on. They managed to spare the L version that kind of treatment.

I'm not a fan of it! What's the purpose? I have one on order, and I'd hate to think that Jeep will discontinue that design in a year or so.
I'm hoping they will connect the roof to the body. I don't think that cosmetic change will affect resale any more than a model year difference.

On the Trailhawk model, the chrome trim around the windows is blacked out, so with the black roof you don't even notice the "floating" part of the design. Thank goodness. It just really shows up on the other models that have the chrome trim.
