Wifi needed?

According to ATT, my Wifi plan in the Jeep is expiring the end of the month...
My question is, does the Jeep need this WiFi?
My understanding is that the Jeep cannot use the in car WiFi for OTA software updates. Which is why I had to give the Jeep access to my home WiFi link while sitting in the garage.
Anyone know?

No, your jeep doesn't need the wifi. It's just a convenience feature for you to have. I have my Jeep linked to our home wifi as our in car wifi has never worked. Spent months going to dealer and on the phone with Jeep and AT&T. No one could fix it and I only lose the ability to use Alexa and the wifi itself.

I have a very strange issue that popped up over the last couple of weeks. When pressing the green voice button and asking for Alexa, the screen and system prompts me that it does not work because Alexa would require an internet connection (and subscription).

Funny thing is that I had that subscription since day 1 and my dash cam is still using it without any issues...

Update: It fixed itself....

I should see if my connection is still active. I've been using a tablet in the Jeep for various tasks and yet on the status webpage for my account is still reflects 0 bytes used...

I have unlimited data through AT&T cell service. If I activate the cell phone's hotspot function while in the car, will the vehicle use that connection instead of it's internal WiFi? Do I really need another AT&T subscription.

Just to follow up...although it never registered me using data during the trial, my trial did end on schedule and no longer works in the vehicle.
However, that is the customer accessible data. Tethering your tablet and such. The Sirius 360L is still able to stream from the internet and the vehicle still appears to be online for its own uses.

Anyone know if the GCL uses onboard SIM card like the Audis and range rovers? I have AT&T cell service and would rather use one of my lines with unlimited data instead of paying Jeep/AT&T for a separate subscription.

That's exactly what I would like to know. However, I suspect the chip is built into (hardwired) the radio electronics. I would like to know if the radio electronics would accept a cellphone HOTSPOT as an alternative? Has anyone tried it?
