Where is the sensor that get blocked when it snowing?

Where is this sensor located to wipe off? It’s not the one behind the mirror. That stays clear with the wipers.

It's the flat, black rectangle in the middle of your bumper. When the snow is a bit slushy/wet, it can easily stick to front-facing surfaces which kills the radar signal/read. I've had to clear mine off in those conditions. It seems like this area should be heated to keep it clear, because it's pretty dumb to lose your cruise control on a 4x4 SUV because you're driving in the snow. I'd pay an extra $20 or whatever to have it working in those conditions.

Yeah, it's really pathetic. I haven't had a car with this system before, though. Maybe they all do it, across all brands, because there's no way to heat that area without interfering with the radar itself? I don't know the answer. But, if we're on the road to having fully autonomous vehicles, there will have to be a solution, obviously. If nothing else, a heated washer fluid sprayer might be able to keep it clear (as companies have used on headlights for decades).

They all do it. The only one that I found that doesn't is my mother in laws Toyota Sienna. This is because the radar sensor is behind the emblem and it is slanted not flat so it doesn't build up a lot there. But EVERY vehicle that I have had that has the adaptive cruise did this. Kind of crazy that not one manufacturer can figure out how to avoid this yet. This system has been out for a while now.

To heat it, they'd probably need some kind of metal in the face of it, which would interfere with the radar. But they could put a heated washer nozzle on it. Smart people design these things, so I'm sure they've been trying. It is a problem that needs solving, though.

If nothing else, they should have a 'basic cruise' function that will allow you to still use cruise control without the radar. I'm guessing lawyers were the problem with that solution, as it would 'create confusion' with certain customers. I would argue they already have that problem with the 'hands free' system, as you can use radar cruise without the hands free on, and I've already caught myself forgetting whether I have the 'steering' component turned on. I could see that causing a few accidents for people, too. So why not let us have 'basic cruise'?

My GCL has basic and the radar cruise control.

Hmm. Maybe I just don't know how to operate it, then. I couldn't seem to get it to 'set' a speed unless using the 'radar' or 'lane assist' modes. Could be another electrical problem, software problem, or user error.

When you use 'basic' mode, do you just hit the 'set' button, without engaging radar or steering? Also, are you in Canada? Might be different there, but I wouldn't think so.

Yes i I am in Canada, not sure if that makes a difference. But I have 2 buttons on the steering wheel. One activates the adaptive cruise and the other turns on your basic cruise control.

Yea I have both also, I just use the regular one when the sensor is blocked. I wiped it off a few times and realized it’s pointless as it just gets built up again really fast.

Hmm, I'll have to try it, although they may buy it back before I ever get to drive it again... But I'll be ordering another one.

At another member's suggestion for testing the theory of my full-forward advanced braking system, he suggested testing a block of the site with aluminum foil. Lo and behold, I put aluminum foil over the square in the center of the bumper and I got a message on my dash that the system was blocked. However, I still do not get braking or audible warnings from any traffic stopping suddenly ahead of me or if a car makes a sudden left turn in front of me. So I am still in the boat of not having a working system, though the sensor does actually recognize a blockage in front of it. Whether this could be a calibration issue could be a next thought.

After my NHTSA filings from me where my vehicle auto braked at highway speed to a dead stop due to cross path detection, I suspect it has been disabled... If jeep auto brakes and kills you its there fault. If you run over somebody/something its yours...

@Sarge can cook soup/meals in his center console due to design/build issues, has little heat output to the cabin, yet is trying to heat the front bumper to clean the snow buildup, he never quits. After building wranglers with flat, near vertical windshields for decades, you would think they would learn about flat objects facing forward.
