Rock cracked my windshield.... GCL's are so new I have to wait for Jeep to send one to Safelite.....3 weeks of waiting so far, then I will have to take my vehicle to jeep to Calibrate my windshield for the rain sensing and forward sensing items and pay $199 for them to do it then get reimbursed by insurance.

Call Jeep Cares (they don't) and open a case. It's not a defect, but the manufacturer should have known that people would need windshields as a matter of statistical certainty and thus arranged for some kind of support for this. I'm not completely surprised that the aftermarket hasn't caught on, but Jeep should also anticipate the demand IMO. Absolutely nothing about a certain number of broken windshields is "unknowable" or "unpredictable". This is in the "oh shit, my spouse came home early" category.

3 weeks seems reasonable. I bet that's how long it takes all windshield to come in that they don't have in stock.

I'd imagine the aftermarket operates on a 'just in time' basis, and until there are more of these on the road, they won't inventory them widely. After a year or so, I'd think if won't be a problem.

None of that is unforeseeable though, so it's a little surprising Jaep didn't anticipate that as well. This isn't their first time producing a new model, after all.

Just for reference I had to wait a month for my truck windshield. I also used Safelite. But not sure why you have to go to Jeep for calibration. Safelite came to my house once windshield arrived, installed and calibrated everything. I’m guessing safelite has not paid Jeep for the software to complete this task

The problem with the calibration process is that Jeep/Stellantis used a new computer architecture system, and the aftermarket has to come up with a way to work with this new system. I heard some dealers still do not have the upgraded computer diagnostic system yet to communicate with the new L's . The aftermarket will come up with a way, It will just take time. Just like when they installed the Security gateway in 2018. It took about 9 months for a bypass to become available... As far as Safelite calibrating.. I had them do a windshield in my 2017 Chrysler 300, and the tech straight up told me that as long as the camera and other sensors were not unplugged, there was no re-calibration needed........Everything has been fine ever since...

I'm not sure re windshield calibration what's entailed, but when I took my car back to the dealer again for my Uconnect problems they had just received a new 'WL specific' scan tool. When the service tech ran the codes, his response was "WOW, that's a lot more codes than we were seeing before".

So it's a pretty safe bet that if the dealer only just got the new scan tool in their hands a few weeks ago, the aftermarket is a ways further out.
