True Car Discount

Has anyone that put in a custom order used the True Car discount? Does anyone truly know how the true car discount works?

I have a dealer telling me that it is a rebate and is there for taxed by adding the 500.00 back into the price of the vehicle for tax purposes and then the 500.00 is removed which in sense you are not getting a 500.00 discount but in fact paying more in taxes. It has been further told to me that if you have gone into the true car website and gotten a coupon it is active for 1 year even though the coupon states it's only good for about 3 months that no matter where you go to buy a vehicle, they will charge you that 500.00 until it expires. They have stated that the dealership is charged the 500.00 upfront and this is the reason you have to pay the taxes on it. So because you have gotten a coupon that apparently won't expire for 1 year they will charge you the 500.00 not only in taxes, but in the price of the vehicle if you don't use the coupon. So you have to use the coupon even if you don't want to.

In Texas when I bought my last vehicle using the true car coupon, I was not charged extra in taxes and in fact received and extra 243.00 discount.

Here is part of the email sent to me.. From my understanding of this, the final cost of the car with the coupon being used would be the same as the lowest normal pricing of 63,760.00.

"To address the TrueCar issue. If you have ever made an inquiry to TrueCar, we get charged if we sell you a vehicle. It doesn't matter where you're from or what you're buying, when TrueCar matches your name (supplied by the manufacturer) to their database, we get charged whether or not you use a TrueCar discount or coupon. With that being the case, you may as well take advantage of that "coupon" since it cancels out the TrueCar charge anyway.

Here is how your pricing would look:

Normally With TrueCar
MSRP: $71,675 $72,175
5% under $65,054 $65,554
1% financing $64,404 $64,904
1% AR $63,760 $64,260

Keep in mind that the "With TrueCar" prices DO NOT include credit for your coupon. I must disclose these fully since they are accounted differently, but in each case the final total would be reduced by $500 with your coupon."

If anyone can explain all this to me I would greatly appreciate it.

I cant explain exactly what the dealers see on their side.
But I can tell you that in my case the $500 were taken off the price before taxes.
Its a bonus cash offer, an incentive.
Its not tied to any dealer is tied to the manufacturer, they are the ones that agreed with Truecar to offer this incentive.

I printed mine too early and it expired before I took delivery of my 2022 L. I just went back and printed another one, dealer accepted with zero issues. They get that money back from Jeep.
I paid:
MSRP
- Affiliate Reward Discount
- Truecar offer
+ Taxes

I see that you paid MSRP for the vehicle. Did you buy it off the lot? I am just wondering if there is a difference for ordered vehicles which causes this issue. I remembered that I had spoken to another person at the dealership and they said to add 300.00 to the price.. LOL This one only told me you get 4% instead of 5%. I am really confused and kind of wondering about them. At least the one person didn't add anything to the cost other than the tax. Maybe I am the first to try doing this.

- Affiliate Reward Discount
- Truecar offer
+ Taxes

Oh now I see what you are talking about. Can I ask which state you ordered the vehicle from? I don't know if you want to mention the dealership or not.

North Carolina, we're far!
You are getting anyway a great deal from your dealer.
$500 bucks or so shouldn't be the determining factor if you are already at 6-7% from MSRP

Yes you are but the dealer I am working worth is 10 hours from me and I am just trying to make sure I understand everything and get the best possible deal that I can.... You are right though, 500.00 shouldn't make or break the deal with these prices. Thanks for your help.

I have the same true car coupon and my car is still being built. Under my coupon the fine print says this coupon only valid on purchase of new vehicle not lease.
Has anyone successfully used this coupon on a lease ?
