Received our GCL altitude today, info on “trailer tow package”

So we received our GCL altitude today. Just wanted to give a heads up to anyone who ordered an altitude with the “trailer tow package”. Before we signed papers I looked the jeep over and noticed no receiver hitch or wiring harness. I asked the dealer what’s up with that? She said “you ordered the trailer prep package” that comes with everything except the receiver and wiring harness. I told her that the package we added to our order included everything. Long story short, the Laredo and altitudes get “trailer prep” packages, not “trailer tow” package. Even though if you build an altitude on jeeps website, and add trailer tow, it says it includes everything.

Now, our dealer noticed the problem with jeeps website and told us to drive the jeep home, and schedule a future appointment for no charge to add the receiver hitch and wiring harness. So they made it right and we were happy.

Just wanted to put this out there to anyone who might end up in our shoes to check for those items before you leave the lot! Other than that we love it so far!

The big question is what is the tow rating being that it is dealer installed verses factory. I know if I was looking at a used vehicle with a hitch I would look up the vin to make sure it was factory.

They told me that the “prep” package was setup to tow the max for the v6 which I believe is 6200 lbs.

The change is because the trailer wiring harness is on backorder until at least the end of the year. Without the harness they can't install the hitch. The vehicle has everything else that comes with the trailer tow package and it is rate for the max tow weight for you engine.

My limited is the same way. Jeep knocked $300 off for the missing harness and hitch. It will cost $1500 to have them put on when they are avaliable.

We were lucky and our altitude has the everything included on ours. It has the receiver and wiring harness. Must have been an early enough build where Jeep had the parts.

That makes sense, thanks for that info! Our dealer must not have been informed about that. Makes sense why our “trailer” package was at $695 instead of being close to $1000. But our sales lady went to bat for us thankfully and told us when parts are ready they are going to cover parts and install. Kinda crazy that they would only knock off $300 when the total for hitch and harness is so much more than that

You're welcome. The labor for the wiring harness is the real killer. It would not cost any extra labor to install it during the build. Labor to install the hitch is minimal.

Mine goes in tomorrow and after reading this I reached out to Stallantis because this is JEEP #2 because of the towing. 1st was because they knew I needed to tow and the sales person found me a jeep with NO tow capabilities which I discovered 3 weeks in and they bought it back, this one they said they owed me a hitch and it just came in but the IOU shows no wiring harness which really concerns me as I am starting to feel played. Mind you I have waited with a list of all the little things that have been happening so that I could have it all addressed with my first oil change so as not to sound like a big baby but I am seriously getting frustrated after seeing this. I hope they have the harness in stock.

That sucks. We were hoping for a similar situation but our hitch hasn’t even arrived yet and we’ve been waiting since October. It goes in Saturday morning for the first oil change so I’ll be speaking with them about it.
