Permanently Disabling Auto Stop/Start?

MrBreeze

With a WL74 on order and scheduled to ship later this month, I'm already trying to find out if and how the auto stop/start can be PERMANENTLY disabled. This "feature" might save a bit of fuel so the manufacturers can hit their CAFE numbers, but I for one would rather save the wear on the starter and engine components from the constant starting and stopping.
Who's figured it out? (I've done a search and didn't find anything on it)

Thanks!

I don't think you can. I hate the feature and wish I could permanently disable it as well. Lane assist, parking sensors, and other stuff can all be disabled permanently

I figure Jeep doesn't allow start/stop to be disabled permanently because the feature, when used normally, probably allows them to advertise whatever MPG it is they get. The number is probably a bit higher than if start/stop was never used. I'm sure there's some kind of legal reason for them.

I turned mine off so often that now it doesn’t do it at all. Not sure if it is “learning” my preference or other factors such as outdoor temperature etc.

I put one of these on my OBD port in my JGC years ago and it has worked great. Maybe contact them and see when the 2022 MY versions will be available.

Andrew,

For the GC L, it depends on when we can get our hands on one. We rely on customers as well as rental locations like Enterprise to get vehicles. So far we haven't been able to acquire a vehicle from either. Until we have one to look at, we won't know what we're up against. I will let you know if/when we make one available.

Wont that mess up the remote start function from the remotes then? If the truck thinks the hood is open, then it wont allow remote start.....

On the NEW GCL there is a button above the Uconnect screen to turn it off and on.

Yes, but if you turn it off it will come back on the next time you start the vehicle. There's no permanent way to always keep it off.

I know the Tazer works for that on the Wrangler and Gladiator. I’d email them and ask if it works on the WL platform.

The GCL's are a different beast all together with different security. Even the dealers had to buy a different module for their computers to "talk to the GCl's" .The Tazer does not work on them...yet...

Ha maybe I'm lucky, 800 miles in and the auto start stop has never worked, permanently in a "not ready" state.
Debating whether to tell the dealer about it or not when I bring it in for recalls.

That may mean that the extra battery for the start/stop may not be up to par. I would have it checked.

I have yet for the Auto Start/Stop to even kick in on mine. I would prefer that it DOESN'T, so I am not going to bring it up at service, but I do need to get a recall handled and I am inquiring about the advanced braking and warning system not working on mine.

Ok, the one thing I do know, if your battery doesn't have enough charge -- through internal programming, it won't work. This is common with very vehicle from every manufacturer. It happens with my other vehicle, my MB 21 GLE450. FYI...

I just got mine back from a couple of days at a dealer getting a couple of recalls completed. The auto start/stop still is not working, though when I mentioned it to the service advisor yesterday morning, he said "There could be an engine code that is keeping that from engaging..." On the drive back home, the stop/start didn't engage. I had 3 pages of other items they claim to have addressed as "Open RRT", not entirely sure what those may be but at .2 labor hours each, it couldn't be more than a reflash of some sort that they did when addressing the initial concerns.

I noticed mine not working a few times and I just toggled the dashboard button off and on then it started working again. It usually works however. (GCL Overland purchased mid Nov)
