Paint chips like it's made of egg shells

I've got more paint chips on this after 5k miles than I had on my last two cars at 100k miles. Is this normal for Jeep? My last two cars were a Toyota and a Nissan and they held up really well. I even have paint chips on the passenger side rear door which I wouldn't consider an at-risk area. I hope they send me that touch up paint pen soon.

I noticed a high contact area along the rocker panels and lower rear bumper. Seems like mud flaps of some kind would be very beneficial. I just did ppf on these areas.

It would be helpful for tracking issues if people include what color paint they have. Some colors may turn out to be problematic, and others not.

For myself, I've ordered black Road Armor mudflaps (to be custom cut), 3M Scotchguard Pro film, and will probably add the MOPAR sidesteps, which should all protect things fairly well .

Yes, I noticed the same problem. Multiple paint chips on front hood. My color is the velvet red pearl coat. Hard to touch pearl up. Surprised considering that only drove 3500 miles. Someone mentioned a protection or coating you can get. What type? And how much? Is it the dealer who adds?

mine is black. No issues yet at 3500. 1500 of that was highway at 77 mph. I go out of my way not to follow close or be behind 18 wheelers as much as possible for reference.

I ordered the 3M Scotchguard Pro from this site. Shipped immediately and arrived on time. You can pick which sections you want coverage for. The 'Pro' level (you have to select the option) is supposedly easier to install as it has better self-healing properties. BE SURE you have selected your exact trim level, too, as the bumpers are different shapes. Just received it this morning so not installed yet, but I've used this on other cars and it worked well.

I'm driving a Black Altitude and have a couple of chips on the front nose already. 3800 miles. Really pisses me off too...

Not to excuse the paint quality, but anyone with a black car should have paint protection film installed on the bumper and hood at a minimum. I wouldn't own a black car without it, unless I owned a body shop.

I own a black 21’ Overland and may be the first to have gotten into an accident. A deer jumped a concrete Jersey barrier and smacked into my front fender bounced off the jersey barrier and smacked into the rear fender. The paint is garbage….. The below pic is about 20 minutes after it smacked me and it was flaking off. I’ve seen dents and hail damage on my Audi for example and the paint is basically bonded to the metal. The paint on the GCL is like rice paper.

Wow. I know what you’re saying about that (have owned a lot of German cars with great paint), and that is pathetic!

I concur. The Germans have the best paint in the business. I had several Audis and the paint was outstanding. No chips. No orange peel. Nice shine. Just great paint jobs.

I've had several Audis too, and BMWs, Mercedes, a Bentley and a Porsche, and all of them had great paint. None of my Wranglers had great paint, but I didn't really expect it in such a rudimentary vehicle. The GCL, OTOH, should be on par with any euro brand at this price point, but it just isn't. I've got quite a bit of paint protection film on it, so hopefully that will help it age well anyway...

As a point of reference, the shop I use for PPF and window tint quoted me $2,200 for the front clip and $7,500 for the entire body except the roof for clear PPF.
