Off road goodies for the GCL

So I was randomly checking up on Rocky Road outfitters and I see that they are claiming to have stealth racks and rock sliders available for ordering! They are also claiming that bumpers/winch mounts should be available in May and the lift kits should be available in June. Anybody got anymore info on this? I tried to look for the rock sliders on their website but couldn't find any pic. Thinking of emailing them for some pictures of the roof rack and the rock sliders and possibly order them afterwards.

This is interesting, but it seems from their site that this is just an attachment system to the OEM side rails, which are only rated for 150 lbs. To carry heavier loads without damaging the vehicle, you need to replace the factory side rails with stiffer steel units with extra attachment points to better distribute the forces.

This is a good example of what I'm talking about - it's for the WK2

I've emailed them about availability for the WL models, but haven't heard back yet. I also emailed Rocky Road.

From their site:

"Offroad Animal has a cool system that ups the roof loading to 120kg / 264lbs dynamic * (driving) and 240kg / 528lbs static * (sitting still.) We manufacture these super slim rails that push the load to the strongest part of the roof (join of Roof and sides). Not only that but they use the rolled steel rail to join all 6 roof buttons per side for one strong system. So just like that you can up your roof loading to 264lbs."

This is why you need it for heavier loads:

Below is the reply email I received from Rocky Road. It would seem it really is a properly engineered setup for higher load capacity. I still haven't seen a max static vs active load rating though.

"This kit attaches to the factory side rail mounts. Since those side rails are not elevated (like on a KL or Compass), they do not have the same strength issues as past Jeep rack kits. We have been able to integrate the new low profile stealth racks to those rails for a super simple bolton solution with our lifetime guarantee. We also do not need to build a separate raised rail system such as with the WK2, we have been able to attach our kits to the side rails to avoid one more piece in the system.

As we understand, it is the crossbar kit that has the 150lb rating, not the entire side rail which runs front to rear. This is the same setup that the WK2 has had since 2011 and our kits have provided strong and stable RTT mounting on them for a decade now. Tent manufacturers actually use our racks for their own demo and display purposes because it all ties in so strongly.

Our kits available so far for your Jeep are:

Rock sliders.... (no photos yet)

Hope that helps!"
