Guarantee you the GCL takes off in popularity like the Telluride did. If you think buying one is hard now, just wait another 6-10 months.

While I agree the GCL is a really good vehicle, I think Stellantis has a quiet an uphill battle to fight in order to dethrone Hyundai/Kia. Stellantis needs to step up their quality and offer a more competitive warranty to Hyundai/Kia to be able to do that.

I think Stellantis is making some strides in the right direction, and their recent announcement to put the burden of supply onto their suppliers is a strong indication that they are finally learning how to properly execute lean manufacturing. This will in turn help them improve quality by giving them the ability to switch suppliers as needed to another supplier which can produce a better product, while also ensuring they have better control over their supply chain. Toyota has been doing this for quite a long time,.and I think FCS is finally paying attention.

Just my two cents worth though.

Im not saying those things arent issues with Jeep/Stellantics but I highly doubt the majority of buyers let the warranty length keep them from buying a vehicle they want after physically seeing it and wanting it more than another model due to what they see in front of them...and even less so with behind the scenes manufacturing issues.

For me; warranty length was not even a consideration in my purchase at all.

The backorders and price hikes on the Telluride (for instance, not to mention other 3 row models) has been pushing buyers away for months now and it's not stopping. The GCL will pickup the slack and as they get into more buyers hands the GCL will become more popular as time goes on and people look for better 3-row midsize alternatives. It's already starting as average time for a GCL on a dealer lot is less than 8 days for the mid trims.

I agree that customers don't really care about the behind the scenes stuff directly. However, I do think they care about the reliability and quality of the product, which comes directly from improving the behind the scenes stuff.

Totally fair point here. The price gouging which seems common at the Kia dealerships is definitely going to hurt them long term. I feel bad for the people who try to trade in their vehicle in two or three years only to realize they're upside down on the loan.

I think you are probably right here.

As frustrating as some QC issues on the new GC are right now, I'm confident this will be taken care of soon. MY22 (23 the latest) will be far more reliable already.

The Telluride / Pallisade have their share of problems, especially with replacement parts and really bad repair experiences. I almost bought one, but so far I am glad I bought my JGC.

The issue with the Kia was that they were only making 70k units a year initially. This is before the Telluride started winning all those awards. It came out in early 2019 and the price mark-ups started by the end of that year. They upped the production to 100k and then Covid hit. Kia also needs to work on their dealer network. The Telluride is a good car with bad dealer and parts support.

What is the GCL annual production anyway?

I follow the GCL issues closely because our next purchase is going to be either GCL, Telluride, or the XC90. My wife wants a bench seat and you can’t get it on the Kia with the top trims. She likes the fact you can pay extra to get it on the GCL.

Unfortunately with awards like these the journos only spend a week with the car and rate it based on performance and not long term ownership.
