Mopar Hitch and Trailer Wiring - Self Install

I recently had my 20 year old F150 tranny go out and decided to replace it with a Jeep GCL due to its tow rating. I found a 2021 4x4 with the tow-prep package an hour away and went to purchase it. I spent a couple of hours at the dealership and talked to the salesman and several employees about using the GCL to pull my boat. This past weekend, I went to hook it up to my boat, and was surprised to find that there was no receiver or wiring under the bumper cover. I then discovered the fraud that Jeep has been perpetrating on consumers and I am so disappointed in my purchase. Being that I have had the vehicle for 2 weeks, I am sure the dealership will not take it back. I have someone at the dealership working on a solution, but I am not hopeful they will voluntarily fix the issue for free. I am going to wait and see what they do. If the dealer does not make me happy, I will install an aftermarket and sue them for the cost in small claims court. This is a horrible and misleading business practice. I am also going to contact the Federal Trade Commission, because this is just outright fraud on consumers who thought they were getting "Tow Ready" vehicle with this package. Very bad idea for Jeep to treat people this way, and sad that they ruin a $55k purchase over $500 in parts.

Hey guys, Wanting to put some feelers out if anyone would be interested in an OEM hitch and trailer wiring harness, 600 picked up or +shipping. I was able to find these for my 22 that I have on order but I am now thinking about cancelling the order after reading about all the issues everyone is having with them. I think I'm going to keep my wife in our TRD Off road premium 4Runner that has 0 issues. I had high hopes for the GCL but this site has made me very concerned about the reliability of them.
Hi - wondering how much your dealer charged for the receiver and wiring install?

Dealer wanted $1500 to install and we settled at $750. It took them 2 days to install everything because hey had a issue with the programming. But they gave us a loaner car to drive while they had the jeep.

I finally got a hitch installed (use for bike rack and fly fishing boat). The dealer said they couldn’t get Jeep hitch in till May so we ordered an aftermarket one (Curt brand). During the install, they called me and said there were no wires. They said it would cost more than $1000 to install a wiring harness up to the front of the vehicle. I told them to install the hitch and put it back together. I found a simple 4 pole wiring harness on ETrailer that I will install myself. It costs $111 and there is an instruction video showing the installation. No need to remove bumper/fascia, just remove tail lights and fish the wire behind the fender. The harness splices into the taillight/blinker connectors. Once that is connected, a long black wire runs underneath the car (tucked behind heat shields, zip tied etc) to the battery/fuse box area under the hood to supply power. Looks pretty simple and will save $1k. I don’t plan on towing anything that needs brakes. (I still think that a Jeep this nice should come with a hitch and wiring standard, give me a break.)

I too have been considering this option from Etrailer, as my dealer says there is no wiring harness option…..? Let me know how this harness works out and if it is as easy as the a trailer video makes it appear

The video makes it look pretty easy. I won’t do the wiring harness till spring (still snowy in Montana). Pull onto the grass for a clean soft working surface. Crack a beer and make an afternoon of it. In the meantime, I’ll be able to use the bike rack.
