Mopar Hitch and Trailer Wiring - Self Install

My 21 Overland built in August didn't come with the hitch or trailer wiring. Instead, it had the Trailer Tow Prep Group (sad). Recently I purchased the OEM Mopar Hitch (68460202AC) and Wiring (82216041AB), and completed the install today (took about 4 hours).

Few questions for those have done the install themselves, or had it done.

1) Did the dealer have to enable the 'XF2' sales code? The wiring instructions indicate that this step needs to be completed by the dealer. Since my vehicle had the tow prep group, not sure if I need to have this done or not.
2) What is the Blue A6 Service Brake wire for? The instructions just have you route the wire up to the footwell on the passenger side but don't show connecting it to anything.

PS - The only item I found missing is that I needed two additional bolts when installing the Hitch bar (requires 8, and the dummy bar only has 6) - Mopar part #6512297AA

To all in this forum - don't all GCL's come with a hitch (and mine did not have the tow package)? I thought the hitch was standard? I thought the only thing the tow package gave you was the break adjustment on the dash and maybe a cooler for your transmission? Thoughts anyone?

No, not all GCL's come with the hitch installed from the factory....and the towing package DOES NOT give you an electronic brake controller. That still has to be addad...

Regarding my original post...

1) I'm guessing that I do need to get the dealer to update my settings, as my odometer is now blinking.

Dealer added the XF2 sales code today, resolved the blinking odometer issue after my hitch/wiring install.

I just received my Mopar hitch and Mopar Plug with no wires. There is no hardware or instructions in the box for the hitch or plug I saw additional parts in the picture and assumed they come with it because there no additional parts numbers. I have the trailer prep group on MY GCL is the wiring harness there I was assured it was when I purchased vehicle.

Would love to see the pictures when done. Wondering is the hitch will be in the same spot as the OEM hitch…behind the bumper and not below.

None of the GCL come with the wiring harness pre isntalled unless it was an early model which had both the hitch and harness from the factory. The dealer lied.

The top one is a MOPAR accessorie hitch. The bottom number is the original equipment part number, like if it came from the factory. they may very well be the same hitch but different part numbers, but I cant say for sure.

They lied to me also went to the dealer to confront them nothing they would do. Them had the balls to quote 525. for harness 3 plus hours to install.
I'm so pissed right now e trailer has a plug and play 4 wire harness for 104.00 but back ordered 4 to 6 weeks. I'm still looking.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed this is my first Jeep and probably my last. I traded my Dodge Ram 1500 in for GCL and have been disappointed since day one. The biggest issue is the factory tow prep package I was assured by my salesman the wiring was there and just need to purchase the receiver. After getting the run around for 2 months I was informed it's not installed on my truck with factory tow prep group. (PS that's why I bought this Jeep). While I was at their service dept that was looking for the none exitance wire I ask the parts guy how much this part was if I had to purchase from dealer and install the quoted 525.00 for the wiring harness and at least 3 hours to install over one thousand dollars. that's not including hitch. So, I go online and what do u know the wiring harness is only 285.00 so I text my salesman and ask him to explain what happened to his sales manager. I would pay for harness they would do the install being ECM has to be updated. Well now the salesman denies telling the wiring was there and dealer will not install it. I contact Jeep wave they were no help.

Its not the vehicle's fault that the dealership you chose is full of idiots.

I bought my JGL during the towing-parts-shortage knowing full well I would need to pay to have it installed later on to the tune of $1000.

1000k is about the right price for just the harness OEM hitch went up to 400.00 without install which requires taking bumper and wheel wells off. Good luck

Hey guys, Wanting to put some feelers out if anyone would be interested in an OEM hitch and trailer wiring harness, 600 picked up or +shipping. I was able to find these for my 22 that I have on order but I am now thinking about cancelling the order after reading about all the issues everyone is having with them. I think I'm going to keep my wife in our TRD Off road premium 4Runner that has 0 issues. I had high hopes for the GCL but this site has made me very concerned about the reliability of them.
