Level 2 Chargers for 4xe

Though I haven't ordered my Jeep yet, I think it's time to figure out which Level 2 charger I want to buy. As I understand it, the most important criteria is amperage, and Jeep's 4xe benefits from having a 32 amp charger. (Lower amp chargers will work, but take longer; higher amp chargers won't charge any faster, but generally cost more, so unless you're planning on using your charger for a different car that can benefit from the higher amperage, you're probably wasting money.)

When I first started researching, Jeep was selling a charger that looked like this:

...which I determined was a rebranded ClipperCreek charger:

...but the one they're selling now looks like this:

...which is a Jeep-branded Enel X JuiceBox:

The JuiceBox is on the higher end of the tech spectrum, with WiFi, Amazon Alexa, and Google Home, allowing you to schedule charging, check status, set notifications and reminders, and so on. The ClipperCreek has none of that. The Jeep itself lets you do basic scheduling, and has charging status indicators that are visible from outside the car, so you don't really need the extra tech... but the price difference is only about $30, so the JuiceBox version seems like a much better choice... if you're happy to spend just under $600.

However, for a bit above $200, you can get a charger that's basically just a dumb cable, like this:
BESENERGY Level 2 EV Charger 32 Amp NEMA 14-50 Upgraded 7.68KW Portable EV Charging Cable,220V-240V Electric Vehicle Charger Compatible with All J1772 EV Cars
It has no cable management, but you can but a really nice garden hose organizer for $400!

Does anybody have experience with any of these, or any others?

I should also mention that Level 2 chargers come in 2 types: either hardwired into a 220V circuit, or with a plug for a 220V outlet. Unless you happen to have a spare 200V 32A outlet near your parking spot, you'll need an electrician to either hardwire the former or install an outlet for the latter.

Unless you're worried about someone stealing your charger, the plug-in option seems like the clear winner, since you can replace it whenever you need to without having to bring back the electrician.

It is my understanding that if you have a 32A charger you will need it wired to a 40A circuit. A 40A charger needs a 50A circuit. The car only benefits from a higher amp charger if it can actually draw that much so if the Jeep can only draw 32 amps then you get no benefit from a 40. Also is you have a 100 amp panel, you need to upgrade to a 200 amp one. My house only has 100 amp service so I would need a whole new panel which would be quite costlty for me. 40 amp chargers must be hard wired not a plug.

Once you’ve selected your charger you’ll need to install it. EV chargers draw a lot of power and must be installed on a dedicated circuit. According to the National Electrical Code (NEC), the circuit must be capable of delivering 125% of the power the charger will deliver. Therefore, if you buy a 32-amp charger, it needs to be installed on a 40-amp circuit (32 x 125% = 40). Likewise, a 40-amp charger requires a 50-amp dedicated circuit.

I ended up going with a Juicebox 48 (48 amps, hardwired to a 60-amp circuit). Even though the current 4xe doesn’t benefit from anything above 32 amps, I figure that in the near future, EV batteries are only going to get higher and higher capacities, and manufacturers are going to get dinged more and more for slower charging speeds, so my next car will probably benefit from higher amperage. Also, the total difference in installed cost between a Juicebox 32 plug-in and a Juicebox 48 was less than $250 in my case, so… why not?
