I have installed almost all off-road group skid plates on SR!

Aside from radiator brace, I am only missing part #2 in the diagram. Not planning on installing #2 because we have a similar OEM skid already installed there and I wouldn’t be able to bolt the factory felt shield back on top of it (thus leaving plastic tranny completely exposed to rocks kicking up/etc). Alll in all fairly simple and straightforward despite not having any hardware or instructions. You’ll need a rivet gun and a shitload of M8 rivnuts/riv-serts and bolts/washers, a few M10 rivnuts/riv-serts and bolts/washers, and 3 M12 bolts if memory serves me.

Heres the front

Heres a few of the gas tank skids (be careful loosening tank straps). Start from the rear strap bolt 1st on each side.

Some of the transfer case & battery tub skids (very hard to rivet the inside holes due to exhaust in the way). Had to ratchet strap them over as much as possible to give some clearance for rivet gun

And finally was able to re-install all factory felt shields over top of legit metal skids (best of both worlds).

Glad to report that my $$ (and now yours too) wont go down the drain rolling the dice on the install.

Great job!
What did all the plates cost in total?
Can you share the parts list you ordered?
I’m curious what plates you would prioritize if I didn’t want to do them all at once?

thanks,

Depends on whether ur planning to rock crawl (in which case you prolly need all of them). We like to charge mud pits with some speed so we wanted protection just in case there’s a hidden surprise at the bottom. I would definitely recommend every1 get #1 for the sump protection. I got everything at dealer cost so i paid quite a bit less than retail.

If you are going to be seeing any rocks in the near future then I'd recommend getting number 2 (#1 for a V8) on the diagram. The "skid plate" that is there from the factory is just a brace and is quite thin and flexible. Unfortunately jeep doesn't offer a skid that will protect the whole tranny even if you do buy the "transmission skid" so if you're not in a rush I'd wait for something aftermarket for a tranny skid because the factory one is overpriced considering it's coverage. I had a trip to Moab approaching quickly so I had to bite the bullet.

If you have a V8 then you'll need to do some additional modifications to the heat shield to fit the TC skid. Make sure you reference the correct diagram for your motor because there are definitely differences. Total cost for me was $1,700 which included every skid available. It was a painful purchase but I was actually quite surprised at the quality and thickness of the factory skids for once. The V6 skids are cheaper IIRC which makes no sense.

Agreed on the transmission skid. Very beefy but very little coverage. I opted out of that one and will await an aftermarket option. But since you’re headed to Moab, that was a painful pill to swallow indeed. Good luck out there and let us know how everything holds up!

Do you happen to have any shots of what your front end looked like under the "cardboardish" cover under the end? We've got a discussion going on regarding the lack of any tow hooks, real or emergency options, and I'm wondering what the frame looks like under there with the hopes of maybe bolting on tow hooks...

Have you looked at the Rocky Road sliders?

I would think they'll make skids at some point, too, given the cost of the OEM skids.
