Hard clunk/slam when accelerating for passing (V8 4x4). Anyone else?

Driving my Overland V8 4x4 today, and had a couple of hard clunks when accelerating to pass on two lane roads. Driving along behind a car going about 55, floor it to pass and it did a pretty hard sort of clunk/slam when it downshifted (auto mode, not using paddles).

This car is getting bought back soon, but I'm most likely getting a replacement, so I'm still curious if anyone else has experienced this scenario, and/or what the prognosis was?

Sounds kind of like the torque converter.

As I understand it, the engine and transmission and the whole V8 drivetrain in this has been around for quite a while, so I would think any problems with it would be well known. I'll be glad to get rid of this thing soon, but the new one will likely be the same drivetrain as there seems to be no news on when the new I6 will be available, except probably as a '24 model.
