Hands-Free Active Driving Assist Availability

I confimed above that Highway Assist System is what Base Active Driving Assist is called on the Jeep Compass. So the build tool just has the wrong name for the feature (in addition to having the right name).

Jeep’s ADA does indeed use capacitance sensors in the outer rim of the steering wheel. (The manual even cautions you to make sure you don’t just touch the inner rim.)
For science, I confirmed you can lower the steering wheel to brush your legs and be hands free (had sweatpants on). The system does pretty well, but it will lose the lanes enough that I wouldn't suggest this as your hands do need to be ready any moment. Grinded away lanes in construction zone lane shift areas are guaranteed to confuse the system.

So I may be reading too much into this (and clearly have too much time on my hands) but I’m getting more skeptical the true hands free will be available anytime soon. Noticed tonight that the Canada Jeep press kit shows it as a feature whereas the US version does not.

Canada: https://s3.amazonaws.com/chryslerme...Cherokee_FA_ICE72548b0uo9t0e8v2r6imu1kn8k.pdf

Most frustrating is that Jeep isn’t sharing any information for those of us who want to make an informed decision.

I gave up and placed my GC order without it today.

With that Canadian spec sheet showing that the hands free as an option ( not standard ) for the Summit's; I think the hope it will be on the 4xe SR when I get it is lost. It would be nice if it happens to be an after-the-fact add on. When I get my 4xe, I'll be sure to check within the steering column trim to see if the connectors for the sensor is there.

I hear ya. But apparently I’m more of an optimist this morning. If you look at the Canadian website (https://www.jeep.ca/en/grandcherokee4xe/features-safety) for the 4xe, it 1) doesn’t show the Hands-Free as late availability and doesn’t indicate a major distinction with the active driving assist. I inferred that framing to mean it would be included as long as you had the Jeep Connect subscription to use the hands-free. I heard back from a dealer this morning that there was no news on a recent conference call and asked them to check a 2022 JG Summit to see if it had the camera (I haven’t seen any pictures of a Summit in the wild - just the ones on the build and price showing the camera).

Does the existence of any of these parts, all of which fit 2022 Grand Cherokees and are tagged “Hands-Free Active Driving Assist System,” tell anyone anything useful?

Doesn’t seem meaningful to me since they also are all tagged as “highway assist system” too. I think you’ve been right that from a hardware perspective, the camera is on the steering wheel is the main differentiator (though wish i had grabbed a screen shot when the Build and Price was originally showing the Hands Free as an option). The big unknown to me is when will Jeep start building with the camera or allow the camera to be added - that seems to be critical even if the software / uConnect isn’t ready yet. Don’t know though if there is other hands-free specific hardware that needs to be added. Lookgin forward to one of Ya’ll getting a Summit Reserve and Reporting back!

After pondering this a bit, I think what’s really important here is what I don’t see on the site: there are no alternate versions of these ADAS modules that aren’t tagged for Hands-Free. That is, there are no “Base ADA-only” versions of these modules. Suggesting that as long as you have Base ADA, you have these modules, which are also capable of doing Hands-Free ADA.

Which brings it back to the software and the one piece of differentiating hardware we already knew about: the camera.

There's an entire section on hands free ada in my gcsr manual but no camera, I did notice when changing lanes with ada on and a car in my blind spot the jeep tries to stay in lane and not allow the change even with blinkers on - no vibration, whereas without anyone in blind spot it's just a slight nudge and vibration when blinkers are off.

For the folks that ordered the 4xe SRs, have you gotten your VINs/Build Sheets? Looks ike the camera should show up on the build sheet if it comes with the 4xe.

I ordered the SR 4xe. I don't see anything on my build sheet that I got on 01/27/22 that indicates a camera. What would the sales code and description be?

No clue. was hoping it came standard based on the Canada website I referenced above. I'd assume the description would be something like Driver Monitoring Camera that others have found on the Mopar site.

Gotcha. Yeah, the build sheet I received is super high level and not a lot of details on it. I attached a screenshot from what my dealer sent me.1644954221903.png

Thats not the build sheet, that's the POC.
Once your vehicle finishes production you can download the build sheet and if the monitoring camera is installed, it will be listed there.

Ah ok, yeah I don't think anyone who ordered a 4xe has that yet since none of them have started production other than one person who claims their 4xe is in paint.

Here is a link to an actual build sheet. Page 5 lists ADA but no camera is listed there. I see all the other cameras but not for driver monitoring around the steering wheel

not mine by the way. 90 days and counting
Yea, unfortunately not too surprised. I’m hoping that with the late arrival of the 4xe that maybe it’ll start there but I think that’s more fantasy than reality.
