Gladiator Rubicon Wheels/Tires

Hey all,
I've had my GCL-Limited for about a month. I previously had a 2019 GC and a 2013 JKU before that.

I love the look of the 20 inch aluminum wheels but I am terrified of scratching them. I am used to having much smaller wheels and tires that extend out. For instance I had 15 inch wheels and 33 in, 12.5 in wide tires on my JKU so it was mathematically impossible for me to scrape the wheels on a curb.

I live in Boston so I parallel street park every day.

I'd be wasting the money I spent on the wheel upgrade option but I was wondering if the new Gladitor Rubicon wheels and tires would fit on the GCL without any spacers or mods. See pic below.

Thanks,
Joe

I’m guessing a 33 would probably rub but if you get a set let us know how it works out. I’m kicking myself for selling the ones off my gladiator now. I had the black ones that would have looked great on the Cherokee. Hopefully tazer comes out with a programmer for this new L model to recalibrate for the lager wheel size.

Tazer is already available. Just need to get the secondary OBD connector, or the security bypass, both available from tazer

I’ve been thinking about a similar setup from a gladiator or rubicon…….. those usually come stock with 255/75/17. Seem fairly easy to snag brand new from people changing out immediately. Do you think those would clear our calipers and bolt right up? I like the OEM look and wish to have a second setup for fire roads, snow, dirt etc. I have a Hemi SR sitting in a staging yard in SoCal, pick up is next week.

I'm not positive but I would think they would just bolt on with no issue. The size difference isn't that big but who knows.

The JL/JT Rubicons come with a LT285/70R17 (32.7") now versus the 265/50R20 (30.4") on my limited I'm curious if that will rub at full lock or if it needs some offset. Its almost an 1" wider too. Kicking myself still for selling mine.

I would think a set off a JK would probably clear though they are a little smaller tire size and I bet you could find a set cheaper on CL too.

I believe the bolt pattern on the wheel is the same (5 x 5"), but the biggest issue I think might be if 17" wheels clear the brakes

I know Teraflex makes a big brake kit for the Gladiator they say fits the stock wheel, and its a 14" rotor, its looks like the GCL is about a 13" rotor from what I can see online. I didn't go measure mine.

I have seen 2 Willys JL’s this week with some nice wheels and Firestone AT’s that would look good too on our Jeeps - I am betting the Willy’s edition is a group of upgrade owners…seems like 1/2 my local high school drives them 😂

Echoing the comments from above - wait for delivery on a WL Overland w/ 20" rims and A/T tires (good for summer but not here in the mountains). I have a set of take wheels from my JL (17").
dealership no help on this: Does anyone know if the GC L platform has an oversized rotor that would prevent using the 17" rim? (I know i can check once the GC L arrives, but that could be a month from now and the snow tires will sell out in next few weeks)

I recall 17" wheels not fitting on the WK2's, maybe just the V8's, because 17's wouldn't clear the brakes.

FWIW I just put 20" WK2 '80th anniversay' wheels on my WL, and they fit the same as stock re offset. I wouldn't call them 'curb proof', but I wouldn't be surprised if any variety of Wk2 18" or similar would fit just fine, I just doubt the brakes have gotten any smaller to allow 17's... but maybe on a V6?2.jpeg

Interesting. I had a 17 GC Trailhawk w/ Hemi - stock w / 17"wheels.
My assumption is with the platform change to GCL/Grand Wagoneer, they may have increased the size of rotors to accommodate the bigger frame.

btw - the wheel spook great on the rig!
