Do the 2022’s come with a hitch receiver ?

I currently have a 2014 jeep grand Cherokee, and when I bought it there was a specific option for adding the hitch. However, on the 2022’s I do not see such an option, so I’m wondering if it comes standard, or if I have to do it aftermarket. Can someone shed some light on this?

It's not standard on all trims. I'm not sure which trim it starts on for the WL74, but the WL75 (GCL) it comes standard on the Overland and up. The other trims you need to add it as a separate package.

It's worth noting that the package and trims which have it standard also has improved cooling, which I think is pretty important if you're serious about towing.

On standard WL74, you can add a Trailer-tow package to all trim levels except Trailhawk. It adds a Class IV hitch receiver and four- and seven-pin wiring harness. On Laredo and Limited, the tow package also adds rear load-leveling suspension and a full-size spare tire; the last two items are already standard on Overland and Summit 4x4 models. (The docs seem to be saying that the last two items can’t be added to Overland or Summit 2x4 models, but it may just be written poorly.) I don’t see anything about improved cooling.

On 4xe, the tow package (with all the same items) is an option for Limited and standard for Trailhawk, Overland, and Summit.

Just to clarify - the Trailhawk trim comes with the trailer-tow package as standard equipment on the standard 4x4 model, as well.

I mainly mentioned the cooling because a lot of times, people think they can save a few bucks by installing a third party receiver. The reality is the towing package is a good value since it upgrades a lot of important things, and without it the capacity is limited to around 3000 (3500 I think) lbs.

Does this package actually include a hitch? It doesn't specifically mention the hitch. Also it's called "tow prep".

I hope it includes the hitch but can't seem to find a straight answer.

If it says tow "prep" then it does NOT include hitch or harness. You would need to get both separately.

yeah, there is no option for the tow hitch, at least for the Altitude package that I'm looking at. just the tow prep option.
Exactly what I was wondering and made a post about as well I couldn’t get a straight answer only that hitches were on back order and would take longer for building so I didn’t opt for the tow prep package on my build I ordered a limited and should be here soon I will let you know what my limited comes with under the panel on the rear bumper

There is no Trailer-tow Group II listed in the 2022 code guide for the WL74, do you have a 3 letter code? It is not clear to me the the prep group actually includes a hitch although it includes this which I have no idea what it is:

• TRAILER HITCH ZOOM (XNQ)

While the class IV hitch is this:

CLASS IV RECEIVER HITCH (XFH)

I trird ordering a Laredo 4x4 on the company car site and it offered the prep group but was greyed out so I could not select it. The photo of it did seem to include the wiring connector and a place for a hitch. So it still seems like you can only get a hitch on the 4x4 Trailhawk, Overland and Summit as they are standard.

I recently had my 20 year old F150 tranny go out and decided to replace it with a Jeep GCL due to its tow rating. I found a 2021 4x4 with the tow-prep package an hour away and went to purchase it. I spent a couple of hours at the dealership and talked to the salesman and several employees about using the GCL to pull my boat. This past weekend, I went to hook it up to my boat, and was surprised to find that there was no receiver or wiring under the bumper cover. I then discovered the fraud that Jeep has been perpetrating on consumers and I am so disappointed in my purchase. Being that I have had the vehicle for 2 weeks, I am sure the dealership will not take it back. I have someone at the dealership working on a solution, but I am not hopeful they will voluntarily fix the issue for free. I am going to wait and see what they do. If the dealer does not make me happy, I will install an aftermarket and sue them for the cost in small claims court. This is a horrible and misleading business practice. I am also going to contact the Federal Trade Commission, because this is just outright fraud on consumers who thought they were getting "Tow Ready" vehicle with this package and this seems to be a nationwide problem. Very bad idea for Jeep to treat people this way and sad that they ruin a $55k purchase over $500 in parts.

I have found 99% of car salespeople do not care to learn the true ins and outs of the cars that they are selling. They likely didn't even know what was or was not included. People really need to do their own research these days. I constantly find that I know way more about the cars than anyone at the dealershiop. Also, if the towing hitch and wiring were so important, why didn't you look for yourself before you bought the vehicle, especially because Jeep covers up the hitch area? C'mon man - I can see why you're frustrated, but you gotta make sure you know more about your $55k purchase. That's not discounting the fact that your dealership messed up. They most certainly did by not knowing it well enough to tell you that the physical hitch hadn't been installed, that way you could work out installation as part of your deal to make sure you had one. With the supply chain issues in car manufacturing these days, changes can happen quickly. There are certain things I will be double-checking before taking ownership of my Trailhawk that I ordered, whenever it comes in. The hitch being physically there is one of them.

This is not my fault. I didn’t check to make sure the transmission was there or the engine, or the exhaust either. I paid $695 for the Tow Prep Package and the salesman knew I was planning on using this to tow, and it is NOT prepped to tow. Jeep has made a horrible decision to continue to deliver vehicles that do not do what they claim to do and are selling packages that are worthless without the receiver and harness. There are tons of people that were misled just like me on these message boards. Misleading people to make money off of them is FRAUD. SneakyJeep obviously is a corporate plant or Jeep employee.

Lmao. I work for a non-profit Foundation in Colorado. I just find it funny when people get so animated over something that's just not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. And yes - it is prepped to tow. It includes all the factory-installed towing prep items that aren't typically dealer-installed accessories. This is not uncommon - many car manufacturers do this. That way when customers opt to have the hitch installed (Yay for giving them an option to have it installed by a dealer or 3rd party!) they are truly prepped to tow large loads over 2,000lbs. You should know that towing large loads is more than just having a hitch, and the tow prep package sets it up for that. Anyway - stinks to see so many people are getting duped because Jeep hasn't communicated effectively, but at this point getting in a tussle on various message boards to vent over $500 worth of materials on a $50k+ vehicle is not very effective. But I'm glad you are here making people are sure to check for their hitch if they are expecting one.

I 100% agree. My first tow vehicle did not have a factory tow package and I always regretted it. Even with an aftermarket transmission cooler installed, it ran hot towing a super-light trailer through Kansas on 90+ degree day.

I noticed my Overland L has the tow package and includes a 240 ah alternator, which will be a lot better suited for towing than the 180 ah alternators on my previous 2 WK2s.

I ALWAYS go through the build sheet with a fine tooth comb so that I know exactly what I am getting before I ever go to the dealer.

You have to be your own advocate, and an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. When I ordered my Grand Cherokee Limited, I added the Trailer Tow Prep Group and noted that it specifically doesn't include the hitch receiver. I had no question that my vehicle would not arrive with a hitch. I'm sure Chrysler's lawyers go through everything, even as mundane as the description of the Trailer Tow Group to make sure there is no jeopardy on their part. It's an unfortunate situation.

My Build Sheet lists:
Trailer Tow Package
Trailer Sway Damping
Full Size Spare Tire
Trailer Hitch Zoom
Class IV Receiver Hitch
7 and 4 Pin Wiring Harness

I sure hope I'm not disappointed when I pick up my Overland
