Dealer won't service GCL unless purchased there

The closest dealer to us is not where we purchased our GCL. They were asking absurd markups so we went with another nearby. When I went to schedule service at the dealer closest to us, they asked if we purchased there, I said no, and then they said I would have to go back to where I purchased our GCL to get service before 10k miles. A call to the service manager confirming this was never returned. Has anyone heard of this type of policy? The offending dealer is Stateline Jeep in Fort Mill, SC.

After my Army retirement, I worked at a CDJR dealership for 17 years in service and parts; my service manager told us that dealers were not required to perform warranty work on a vehicle unless it had been purchased from them, but our dealer did not turn anyone away. I do not know if this is still in practice since the FCA merger and is now called Stellantis. I was not aware of any dealer's in our area that practiced that, but some would schedule appointments sooner if that vehicle was bought from them.

Don’t have this issue. Servicing dealer is a mile from my office, where I purchased is 60 miles from my office, and 100 miles from my house

Tell them if them if they want to be even remotely considered when buying your NEXT vehicle, they should think again. My closest dealer wasn't 'happy', either, that I bought out of State but paying $4K more for the same vehicle was just no option for me. And the fact that they are not doing a great job in taking care of my warranty work means that my next vehicle won't be bought from them, either.

I would still call the corporate number and ask if that is acceptable. After all, your warranty is with the manufacturer and not the dealer.

We live in Ft Myers.. I have not purchased a vehicle here in decades.. all the local dealerships do our service no questions asked.. a few times I got bumped on oil changes when I had an appointment for folks that purchased from them, have no issue with that.
My new jeep on order is with a local dealership so I am lookin forward to that..

When I was a kid there was a sign at a Dealership here in Ft Myers.. Val Ward

Our sales team will sell you your first car, our service has to sell you your second....

Absurd markups, refused service? Kind of tells you what kind of place it would be to do business with. I would suggest @JeepCares for advice. My dealer touted the three year Jeep Wave membership and all of it's benefits which included road service. Makes you wonder if you had a breakdown, would they tow to the nearest absurd dealership?

The problem is surveys. When you have a new vehicle roll out, like the GCL and the Wagoneer, and there's some tough problems to get fixed plus supply chain issues. So imagine you own a dealership, and you have people buying their cars somewhere else, but then trashing you on a survey or FFV (fixed first visit). Many incentives to the dealers are determined directly by those surveys and scores. So when you come into a dealer all puffy chested and are seeing a high likelihood of a bad survey, the dealer doesn't want to get clobbered. I know of someone who bought their car 50 miles away, then trashed their local dealer on a backordered part, then were told in definitive terms "don't ever come back".

I was told that loaners would only be considered if the vehicle was purchased at their dealership. The primary issue is that Jeep wants to move upmarket with their high end trims but their service won’t allow it. It cost them a second vehicle from me since I love my SR but it has been in the shop about a month in the first 7 months of ownership with just 3500 miles. I decided to go back to the established luxury brands for my second car so I could count on being taken care of personally. Jeep corporate has a significant dealer issue on their hands.

There's a difference between "loaner" and "rental", and that difference is compensation. Jeep doesn't compensate the dealers for all loaner situations, only warranty repairs get the dealer paid for a loaner. Dealers eat a lot of expense with a nonpaid loaner, thus the reason they're reserved for customers that purchased there, otherwise you're getting a rental, which Jeep or you are paying for.

We just had the water pump replaced on our 2018 Summit, and it was done under our Gold Plan warranty. Took it to two dealerships, the first was over a week to replace, so went to the second one and they did it the next day. We are from Ontario Canada, and here in Florida for 5 months. No issues what so ever, even had a rental for the day, under warranty as well. Both dealerships knew we were from Canada.

All my work was for warranty repair since it was a 4 month old vehicle. My primary point is that it has never mattered at BMW, Lexus, Audi or Mercedes. They have all provided free loaners regardless of where the vehicle was purchased. That is the difference between Jeep and the luxury dealerships. Sorry but expectations are high when purchasing vehicles over $70K and Jeep has a long ways to go.

I wouldn't say Jeep itself, it's the dealership.

Interesting, the Service Director is my neighbor. Go to their sister store in Pineville - Classic Jeep Chrysler. We have 3 Jeeps including a new WL74 JGC and I bring everything to them and I didn't buy from them.

If you rolled in with a Ram 2500 with 300,000 miles and ZERO chance of getting a survey, I'm guessing they'd be less concerned about where you bought it.

That is of little concern to me. The luxury dealers service your vehicle without question and that is my point. It cost Jeep another vehicle since I just purchased a new Lexus RX 450h to go with my SR. I could not chance having two Jeeps in the family with the service issues I am having with my new SR.
