Dash cam?

Has anybody installed a dash cam in their L?

I have a Vantrue N4 I want to install. Any tips on how to easily wire for power? It comes with a rear cam with a 20 ft cord as well. Any tips on hiding the rear cable with taking too many things apart?
Thanks!

I have! BlackVue 900S.
Was not that easy. Had to extend the BlendMount arm to reach the windshield and had to contact some shops to have it hard wired. Dealer not willing to touch it.

Thanks! I wish manufacturers would start adding some sort of power port near the mirror.

I totally agree. Either that or at least a simple utilization of the cameras already present on the vehicle. I had a feature called "Drive Recorder" on my BMW X7. Recording was limited to 40 seconds but at least you could record all 4 sides and had some basic functionality.

That's a great point. WIth all the cameras already built in, it'd be great to be able to plug into those.

Tesla does this, you can see what happens to your car even if it's off. I wish Jeep would do this since they've got all the cameras anyway...

I installed a Garmin 67w, which to enable parking mode requires both constant 12v and ignition (switched) 12v.

If you take apart the overhead console (kinda tricky) you will find both power sources there - at least that was the case on my Overland. However, it would have been a delicate job to tap into them due to cramped quarters and thin wiring, so I ended up instead hiding the relatively thin garmin power cable behind the trim along the top of the windshield and down the driver side A pillar where it can be easily routed under the dash. This only took a few minutes. Then I tapped both switched and constant 12v power from the fuse panel under the dash using fuse taps.

Make sure to buy the right size fuse taps, the L uses Micro2 fuses. Here is the one I used: https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/...lit0/fhm20200zpa?q=Micro2+add+a+circuit&pos=0

You will need to probe the fuses in the panel with a voltmeter to find the ones with constant and/or switched power but both are there.

Make sure to follow the directions for the tap, it can be inserted such that the new fuse feeds thru the original fuse - it will work but you ideally don't want that.

I don't remember offhand exactly which fuses I tapped, but can take a photo if requested.

Agree it would be awesome to be able to tap into the existing Jeep cameras.

If you don’t mind, I’d appreciate a pic of the fuse locations your used. Was it difficult to access the fuse box?
