Cracked windshield

Rock hit the windshield on my 2021 Overland today and put a nice size crack in it. Contacted dealer and their preferred glass repair service. No aftermarket glass currently available (which is a good thing) so they have to order the OEM glass to replace it. They said insurance approval may take a couple days to a week, but the glass should be her in about a week. I'll believe it when I see it. Replacement has to be done at the dealer to recalibrate cameras and sensors. For those interested, I'll keep you posted on how this whole process goes. Not looking forward this!

2 weeks since I contacted the repair shop and dealer...
New windshield has been ordered but still has not arrived. My insurance (Safeco) only approved up to $295 for the cost of camera/sensor recalibration. Dealer says the cost to do this is $379. Called the insurance back and explained the situation and they claim they've never heard of anyone hitting this $295 limit before and didn't know it even existed. Insurance said to submit the dealer quote and they will need to approve the higher amount.

In the meantime, I contacted the repair shop again and they were able to talk the dealer down to $295 since they have a good working relationship. That way we don't have to wait for insurance approval.

Hopefully windshield comes in soon. More updates to come!

Windshield came in and was installed on 6/10. They did a very neat job and all of the sensors appear to be working correctly after recalibration.

However, I noticed there is a small imperfection in the glass. It looks like a small bubble (about an 1/8" in diameter) with a bunch a tiny dots around the area. Hard to take a photo of it and it looks different in person, but with a light behind it you can sort of see what I'm talking about. You can feel a small raised bump on the inside of the glass.

Unfortunately it is on the driver's side and noticeable when driving. I've contacted the company that did the glass replacement at the dealer and a manager is going to contact me about it. I'm really debating whether to risk having the windshield replaced again and having another problem, or just live with this in the glass. I'm not even sure what they will offer to do for me yet.

Unless you were offered a huge discount for choosing defective glass, I'd absolutely make them replace it. It's called 'getting the benefit of your bargain'.

I agree with Sarge. I don't think I could handle staring at that constantly. I have a similar but smaller imperfection on my WK2's windshield, but it's not in my sight line.

These vehicles are entirely too expensive for parts to be replaced with other defective parts. I would imagine windshield glass is inspected and should be prior to installation. This could cause further issues with the integrity of the glass further down the road. See if they'll make it right for you!

Thanks for reassuring me that I wasn't being too picky about this in making them replace it.
I contacted the glass replacement service the dealer uses and the manager came to my house to inspect it yesterday. He said he agrees and wouldn't want to look at that either, especially on a new car I purchased. He also apologized that they missed it before they put in the windshield. They do inspect before installation, but did make a mistake on this one and missed it.
He's going to call the dealer, talk to the parts department, and make it right for me.

I used Safelite on a previous vehicle. While trying to remove the old windshield the Safelite technician scraped up the paint on the A pillars around the windshield as I watched him slip several times with his tool. Afterwards he claimed those marks were there before he started the job and he did not cause the scratches. So... I went with a different shop this time who has a relationship with the dealer and works on Jeeps often.

I was happy with the perfect installation I got this time... It was just the bad piece of OEM glass that wasn't checked thoroughly before installing.

Have the same issue, a rock on the road.
Insurance only works with Safelite. Local dealer actually sub contracts the job to others so I'm fine working with Safelite.
Have an appointment for next week, but not sure yet if they have the windshield secured.
Does anyone knows what the calibration consists of? If I have issues with the calibration what issues will I see or what sensors would that trigger?
