I tried using the phone as a hotspot, but that doesn't work if it the controlling device for the stream casting.
I did manage to get a Chromecast Ultra to connect to the in car WiFi, however the WiFi appears to have network isolation which prevents other devices on the hotspot network from being able to connect to each other. While I understand the intention from a network security perspective, it would be nice to be able to disable the network isolation for stuff like this.
The WiFi is a lot slower than I expected for 4G. I'm not sure if this is a radio limitations in the vehicle or if AT&T is throttling the bandwidth, but so far it caps out at 5Mbps, which is pretty slow by today's standards.
Ideally, Jeep just adds chrome casting to the passenger screen out of the box. Without it, the passenger screen doesn't seem to add much value in itself since any HDMI input device is going to depend on the WiFi in ways it doesn't seem to currently operate. There is a catch to this though... The wireless Android Auto uses it's own ad-hoc WiFi network to operate, so the Android Auto connected device (unless it's connected via USB) isn't able to cast to anything.
@JeepCares Is there a way to disable the client isolation on the hotspot WiFi?
