Base sound system upgrades

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!

I am going to install a powered under seat subwoofer in my altitude this weekend. It was previously in my 2017 ram and helped significantly with the stock systems sound quality. Has anyone done something similar in their L yet and if so where did you mount it/run the power line/splice into a speaker wire?

any other ideas on improving the base stereo?

Not great, initially thought there was something wrong as the sound was hollow and not very impressive. Played with the settings and the noticed the "loudness" option was not checked. That helped a bit at normal listening levels. The powered sub helps quite a bit, at least it did in my ram, it fills some of the voids in the stock sound, especially if spliced with a door speaker.

Does yours have an option for 'surround sound'? That makes a huge difference in our system. When we turned it off the sound was very hollow, but when its on it sounds really great.

I'd love to upgrade the stock sound system in my 21' L Altitude too. Its a pretty disappointing system, sounds very thin... wondering if there is an aftermarket Amp/Processor that will bring this system to life.

I’m also going to add subs, I was wondering if you can hook the amp up under the front passenger seat to the aux battery terminal. Much easier then running all the way to the main battery

I feel the same exact way. Played around a LOT with it, and came to the realization that it’s not that impressive. I have a bit of static in my speakers as well. It’s not present in XM, but noticeable in Car Play. Curious to see if you or anyone else is having that issue? I just picked up my GCL Altitude two days ago.

Yes, I have the same static crackle sound in the speakers when listening through carplay. I tried plugging in to make sure it wasn't the Bluetooth and it was still there.

For anyone having the crackling problem, a good workaround might be to get an AUX adapter for your phone and plug the aux cord into the car.

I’ve wondered about this, and wonder if not only the crackling will be gone, but if the sound would be more enhanced as well. Do you notice a difference? (If you’ve gone down that road)

Dash speakers are 3.5 and then there are 6x9’s in each door. I have a set of Infinity Reference 3.5’s and a set of mid bass CDT 6x9 I’m going to try and install in my girlfriends GCL. Hoping they used the standard Jeep speaker plugs so I can use existing adapters.

I have an Altitude with the same crackle - and terrible sound via CarPlay/Pandora - I am actually happy with the sound off of XM/Sirius most of the time - it does vary by artist/station as expected based upon how the music was recorded.

The crackle is even there for phone calls...terrible

I have an appointment on Monday after T-Giving to have them go thru the Jeep and see if a software upgrade will help or if it is a bad radio...

Actually my gf complains about that same problem so maybe I’ll have them look at it when they look at the intermittent service 4wd light that pops up

I brought my Altitude in to the dealer a few days ago, and my sales guy sat in the passenger side to hear the static/crackle that I hear on CarPlay, phone calls, and Bluetooth. Sirius/Xm seem to work well. He heard the static, went back to explain to technicians, and they said they’ve heard this problem quite a bit (obviously from this thread).
They’re happy to replace my speakers (under warranty), but said they believe it’s an update issue that should be available in the next couple of weeks. I’ll wait to see if that’s the fix.

Has anyone tried the Aux cord to play music?

Has anyone been able to correct the static / crackle through Apple car play on the Altitude's base speakers? The sound quality is horrible for Pandora/Spotify. However, for XM it sounds fine. Trying to see if it's just a software update or if I need new speakers / radio? Thanks

For the 6x9 the Metra speaker harness is 72-6514 & the dash and rear top have 3&half in speaker use Metra 72-7902. When I install the dash and rear top speakers my car ANC works fine but when I install the 6x9 the ANC starts making my GCL sounds very loud and driving funny so I took the 6x9 out and kept the 3in speakers in. Good luck
