Appearance Protection GCL

Hi all,

Getting a GCL Summit Reserve this week and wanted to see if anyone has had experience with Jeep in the past where they went ahead with the Appearance Protection product they sell as an option at $499. Do you think it’s worth it?

My sales guy describes it: “The Appearance Protection is an interior/exterior coat we apply to all our new vehicles in our Pre-Delivery Inspection process. It will cover any external paint damages from sun fading/oxidizing, discoloration, etc. It will cover any interior part from ripping, staining, tearing, burning, etc. If something was to occur, its covered for those 3 years.”

I’d appreciate any thoughts as $500 is not a small chunk of change. Thanks!

That sounds like a dealer upcharge. You're better off having a body shop/pro detail shop do anything like that. In my state (NY) dealers can no longer add charges that don't provide a service, so they call it a "protection package" which is pure nonsense. I refused to pay it and they removed it as part of my signed deal.

My dealer automatically adds a fee of $2500 for this “service.” Since I bought the car before it arrived I got around it. When I looked at the service history of the car it still shows that the dealer prepped the car with the “protection.” I asked them about it and they told me the charge would be for the warranty. I did not pay anything for it. Just say no…

Thank you everyone. I have a deposit on it for when it arrives this week. I emailed my sales associate and asked him to drop the “service”. Appreciate your insight!

The dealer I ordered from was pushing to have the same thing on mine, a product called Permaguard.... I read the reviews and told him I specifically do I not want it. He then offered it for free and I told him that if they put that on the the real leather seats in the SR I ordered, I will refuse to accept the car because I view that product as causing damage, not preventing it when it comes to real leather.
