Adding A Receiver

I purchased a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L and because of “Covid delays” I was not able to get the tow package.

Can I add a receiver and if so, what’s the max weight I’ll be able to tow?

If you do not have the tow package, then your max towing capacity is probably reduced due to the fact the truck may not have the heavier duty trans cooler and suspension. It says on page 181 that if you have the 3.6 V6 with light duty cooling, then the max towing is 3500lbs.

The hitch option includes the hitch, wiring, rear load leveling suspension and full size spare.

OP said the truck he has does not have the trailer tow package. Your first link also says"Maximum towing capacity". Right from the owners manual

A lot of us ordered our WLs with "trailer tow prep group", whuch gave you bigger alternator, bigger radiator, and rear load levelling suspension. I would think those would have the 6,200/7,200 referenced above.

I got the Trailer tow prep group, package 22e, and it doesn't say anything about a larger radiator, or altenator, at least it doesn't on the window sticker.

You get heavy duty cooling(not sure if that means a larger radiator or not) and a larger alternator. Go to this website and put in your VIN after the = in the address:

Yea, its there, thanks for that. On my Durango, the trailer tow group did include a larger radiator.

For those with the tow prep package.... What did it cost to you to add the actual hitch? Dealer told me it was close to $2k???
