I really like the Summit Reserve 21" wheels (I'd rather they were 20"), but had kind of written them off for lack of AT tire options.
It turns out the stock size 275/45/21 General Grabber AT3, which available in the UK, have the DOT stamp on them, so importing them from there should be no problem. It makes sense, since they sell the same tire in the US, just not in that size. I had emailed several people at General US months ago, and no reply from anyone.
Here's a photo of from UK ebay that shows the sidewall. On the right side, you can clearly see the DOT stamp, which from what I've read is the only thing US Customs would be concerned with. I'd probably order six and swap them through the rotation when taking snows on and off, which would mean always having a couple of evenly/equally worn spares should anything go wrong (I'd have a 21" SR spare mounted on the car, and another in the garage.
Before anyone says it: NO, a 45 profile tire is NOT a good idea for real off roading (18" is best for the WL), but for my use case (two tracks, ranch land, unmaintained roads, but mostly paved roads) this is a good fit. I'd rather have 20", but like the 21" OEM wheels, so...
I've been working on a replacement deal for my buyback (modifying various trim bits on the Overland), and the AT tires would look a lot nicer as well as work a lot better off the pavement. (If I need/want to go on harder terrain I've got an Xterra with 16" wheels and AT tires)
I'm still hoping for Midnight Sky to come online soon, but otherwise I'll go with Baltic Gray (below are photoshop mashups from the Jeep configurator).
