2022 GCL Purchase

Hi all

About to purchase a 2022 GCL summit but having perused this forum this has given me great pause. I see a high concentration of issues on the 2021. Are ppl having the same issues for the 2022’s or different issues or there are none (wishful thinking)? Should I
1. go ahead or
2. wait it out until gremlins are fixed or
3. run the other way and don’t look back

I dropped 70k on this piece of crap and the Jeep brand has completely screwed over their customer base. Run!

This might be too soon to tell, but I just picked up 2022 GCL Summit on Feb 18. 550km highway driven and mechanically solid so far. Uconnect a little buggy… sometimes it’s in La-la land when it comes to responding to screen presses. Knocking on wood…

Thousands of owners out there with no issues or only minor issues not related to the vehicle's build. You will always hear more about the bad then the good.

Thanks @Wlinse I tend to agree with that but do have a fine functioning vehicle right now that I may want to trade in. Just don’t want to trade for a headache if I can get a general feel for what to expect before a purchase.

Like I mentioned in different thread, usually people who got their jeep and are happy with it (99%) they are not here anymore. 👍

I would not buy one of these right now. I've had over three dozen issues in the first two months, and many are still unresolved, no parts to repair, no idea how to fix, etc heading into month 5.

If you can wait, I would wait. For that matter I would probably wait for the new Sequoia. More reliable, same cost (depending on trim), and much better fuel economy.

I see lots of people complaining but for my jeep the issues have been mostly minor (alignment and paint issues so far). I even figured out my front collision sensor does seem to work even tho everyone says it doesnt… i went into a parking garage and my overlands dash lit up and showed me proximity sensors as i was parking in Drive still! To be fair ive only driven 1k miles though so far, but as i took my jeep in the only others in shop were grand wagoneers and the salesman who sold to me said no other Ls were in for issues so far when i asked AFTER buying.

I think a lot of it is its a new car and not everyone knows how it works yet. I peruse reddit too and there was one guy there saying you cant control your high beams but you actually can for example, an issue easily solved by reading the manual.

That said it is still a new model year car so risks do exist. But my car has had none of the tech glitches, carplay is great, no whistling or squeaks, drive is amazing and v6 feels great to me if you cant justify a v8, especially in sport mode surprisingly. just wish the paint job wasnt so poor and i swear either the dealership cant do a good alignment or something is bent because I keep veering right.

I actually like my 2022 Overland a lot and my issues (no traffic or weather and no idea if or when it will ever be fixed despite many calls with jeep) are relatively minor. Having said that I think many of us are trying to rationalize our decisions to buy by minimizing issues that shouldn’t exist at this price point (non-functioning basic technology, bad paint jobs etc). I am just thankful that I don’t have the major issues encountered by many. First Jeep product and their inability to address things is not impressive. Not getting rid of mine but hard to recommend to anyone to join me in the risk pool.

Agreed. Seems like it’s either the same people with problems or new members that just joined. Sounds like many makes and models are having issues right now so it’s not just a jeep thing. I know people have had some issues but we have almost 5k miles on our 9/21 built altitude and have been very happy with it so far. Knock on wood

Well, I have (had) a 20 Gladiator, and I have a 21 Renegade. The Gladiator was in the shop for almost two months over Dec-Jan, due to a combination of parts delays and poor diagnostics (further stretching out the wait for parts in sequential fashion. The Renegade is still in the shop, about five weeks now, waiting on a fuel line.

Jeep chalks it up to the chip/pandemic shortages, which may be true, but it doesn't make it better to say so. Seems that right now is just a bad time to have anything go wrong. So I wouldn't say that the risk is necessarily higher with this brand/model (I have a Summit Reserve incoming), but it probably feels more frustrating given that it's a new car. I admit, I have almost abandoned my deposit, though, especially after the bricking issue recently discovered. It certainly would be safer to wait, if you can bear it. But then, tomorrow something could go wrong with your existing vehicle, and you'd be in a similar boat most likely.

Wait for 2023 model year Grand Cherokee ordering to open up in a few months.
That's probably what I'd do.

Not necessarily due to it having less glitches (which is likely as well) but by then, we will probably get the Rear Seat Entertainment and the new V6TT.

9k miles 21 GCL Laredo. Four mornings with no power steering due to issue with cold temps. Outside that, no issues so far.

@GCOverland What is the V6TT? Also good point of hopefully less glitches. Seems so many sensors and technology they threw in without fully understanding how they all work and play with each other. Plus the ESL delete for the Summit - supply constraint.

Does anyone think that cool blue color (hydro blue) will ever come out?

I just placed order for 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2 Row Summit Reserve with V6 4X4. What is replacement for the ESL delete? Are they using a mechanical system? How does this affect performance with the 4x4 system? Is it even worth buying a 4x4 with this delete and $400 credit? Can it be added at a later date?..

If you're asking about the eLSD, the replacement is a conventional differential. In terms of performance, the delete effectively makes it a quadra-trac 2 system rather than the quada-drive 2.

The color blue (blue pigment) is part of the global supply chain issue (not just for Jeep). Who knows when Midnight Sky or Hydro will be available.

The new twin turbo 6 cylinder is supposedly already in production and will be in inline 6 configuration, also supposedly with a hybrid electric component. The inherently balanced nature of an inline six is.. the best, smoothest configuration you can ask for. I'd love to have one. Better economy, no power loss at high elevation (where I live NA motors lose ~20% or more on mountain passes), and a hybrid system to boost economy.

On the one hand, they have been working on a twin turbo 6 engine for what must be at least 15 years, so hopefully it's well-engineered out of the box, but on the other hand... the V8 drivetrain on mine is about the only reliable part of the car. Definitely a gamble.
