My summit has an auto dimming driver side mirror as well as auto dimming rear view.
Ahh you are correct, i don't know why I missed that feature when I was buying my overland. The Overland and up has this feature.EXTERIOR MIRRORS
- Automatic Adjust-in-Reverse Exterior Mirrors
- Automatic Power-Folding Mirrors
- Automatic-Dimming Exterior Driver Mirror
- Exterior Mirrors with Memory
- Exterior Mirrors with Supplemental Signals
- Exterior-Mirror Approach-Lamps
- Gloss-Black Exterior Mirrors
- Heated Exterior Mirrors
- Pwr Folding Memory Mirrors w/Reverse Tilt / Signals
I have them on my limited . I think they come with the Lux/Tech package.I belive the auto wipers work off a sensor in the glass locatednear the rear view mirror. Not sure if limited is equipped with it or not.
The wife is really missing her rain sensing wipers, auto dimming DS mirror and auto dimming rear view mirror. Anyone know if we can purchase these from Jeep and just plug and play or if it has to be a dealer install?
Unfortunately I must not.Do you have the lux tech group 2? I think it's in there
That is fantastic info dave180.Last week I did some exploratory surgery on my mirror. There is a plug attached to my regular day/night mirror with no wire pins in it. I don't know if there is a wire harness tucked into the headliner. The mirror(s) all work off of the rear view mirror with the sensor for the group of three. Bright lights = dimming inside and outside mirrors. When the transmission is put in reverse, auto dim turns off while while backing.
So, that being said, I found the mirror on a Mopar parts site: #68400498AA. The part is mirror only and same attachment method as whats in there. To make this work it would only be the inside rear view. You need to find switched 12v+ and Ground (or ideally if there was wire harness up there) and wire them to the new mirror. I was thinking of digging around in the roof and maybe using the power from the pano sunroof or something like that. It will be independently dimmable when key is on, but have no connection whatsoever to the outside mirrors.
For me, I plan to revisit this in the spring as its too cool for working in the garage now. Hope this helps everyone out.
When I ordered my Limited it was after they stopped putting the Lux group 2 in the Limited in an effort to get you to upgrade to the overland. I too miss the dimming mirrors that I had in my 14 LimitedUnfortunately I must not.
Can you tell us more about the dash cam wiring and what you are runningDave / others, I completed the upgrade of my basic Limited inside rear view mirror for the auto dim feature. I used mirror part number 68400498AA (same as you found). There are three pins on the mirror side of the harness. Looking closely you can see the two on the left are red/black and the third is on the right (orange) which I did not use. I connected to red/black with wiring I had ran for a dash cam and everything worked fine. I dug around for awhile in the headliner but did not easily see an unused harness. I'd like to do the door mirrors as well. (I agree this is a disappointing feature to not have included.) I am more uncertain about the side mirror upgrade. I found the mirror part numbers online fine. However, I poked around in the side mirror cavity and there is no obvious harness available for the mirror dimmer connection that would be on the replacement mirror and the access thru the door is tight. I haven't pull the door panel yet to see what's available. I suppose there would be harness extension available but I'm not sure how to track that down. I would certainly appreciate any information if anyone has experience with this.
Are they going to bring back the Lux/Tech package for 2022?When I ordered my Limited it was after they stopped putting the Lux group 2 in the Limited in an effort to get you to upgrade to the overland. I too miss the dimming mirrors that I had in my 14 Limited
The dashcam is a Thinkware Q800Pro. I can't say I love it... the video quality is good, I'm just not crazy about the app interface. It also wants to be constantly connected to your phone for wifi (it will tell you this every time you turn on the car/cam, so I just set the volume to 0). The issue is the UConnect on the Jeep (for CarPlay) also wants to connect to the phone as well via wifi. I've not found a way to do both at the same time without the two arguing, so it's one or the other. It's not a huge deal because you only need to connect to the wifi on the dashcam to download video. The wiring is straight up positive/negative. I tapped into fuse #F13 under the dash with a add-a-fuse adapter. Make sure to get a Micro fuse model- there are all the flavors of fuse types connectors available. Search Amazon for "micro fuse tap adapter". There's not a lot of metal under the dash for grounding but there's a screw off to the left and towards the drivers seat a bit I used. Regarding taping the wiring for the dash cam, near the camera itself, I just taped into the wiring again and ran wire to the pos/neg (red/black) of the mirror mentioned in my previous post. You'll need a way to connect to the pins on the back of the new mirror. I happened to have the right kind of male connector laying around that I used. (See the attached images for the pin layout.) The dash cam wires are tiny, telephone wire gauge, so it's a pain. Adjust as needed...Can you tell us more about the dash cam wiring and what you are running
Thanks, @CClevenger Is it a micro 2 or micro 3 fuse tap adapter? Or, do you have a link that you can post (or PM me if links are prohibited)? The dashcam is a Thinkware Q800Pro. This is a great write up. So the auto dimming is automatic correct? Did you solder the wires to the connection at the back of the mirror? Did you ten run the wire down the a pillar to the fuse box?
