2021 Grand Cherokee L Summit Reserve puts itself in park while moving

Today while driving our new GC L Summit Reserve we were slowing for a stop light and a message came on the speedometer screen saying to put the car in park. At the time we were still travelling approximately 10 miles per hour so we of course couldn't put the car in park... When we did get stopped at the light and tried to start out again we noticed that the car had put itself in "park" and we could not change it out of park. Out of frustration and trying a number of different things, we eventually shut the ignition off and restarted the car and this did allow us to put the car in gear. It was a very unnerving situation... has anyone else had this happen?

You posted this Friday, Saturday and again today. At least change the first word of your post ("Today") if you're going to post the same message over and over.

Well RiseAgainst... thank you for being so helpful... I was hoping to get some real insights to our Jeeps problems from this forum, but nothing...

I first posted this at the end of someone else's thread but it had a typographical error, an error that I could not edit, got a message pointing the error out to me so I fixed it and reposted. Still no real responses. I then decided it would be better to just start a new thread. I was then told that I had posted the new thread in the wrong forum, so I cut and pasted the thread into the area that you find it now. I apologise for this coming up several times, but I still have a problem with the vehicle and am hoping there maybe someone with knowledge of the problem.

No knowledge of the problem but take it to the dealer, if they don’t see what you saw or can pull up a code in your history, at minimum it will be documented at the dealership that you brought it in and they didn’t find it. Especially for insurance

My Overlander did the same thing yesterday, twice in a row. First slowing down at a stoplight similar to yours. Then 4 minutes later slowing to an almost stop turning right. I dropped the family off and then tried to get it to do it again but no luck. I'm going to take it to the dealer today and get it documented.

It has to do with the pedestrian/ accident avoidence. There is a facebook group that has had sveral posts. I experianced it as well. My jeep actually turned the motor off, and put the parking brake on. I turned the Automatic braking off. It has not done it since. I believe there is an update for it now. I know several TSB's have been issued.

Just FYI it will do this in reverse too. Made a deepest post about it. If the sensors beep and you continue to go back it’ll hit the breaks and tell you to shut your engine off. This happened to me without anything behind me so I’m thinking the software needs and update.

Do you have the rear brake assist enabled? If you do, it will stop the SUV if it senses anything behind it. I have to turn it off when I go to hook up to my trailer, because it senses the receiver and ball and brakes...

Thanks folks for all of your input! Its at least good to know that this is a real problem. We will take it to the dealership and get it recorded with hopes for a software fix. We are starting to find that the car is more enjoyable to drive when as much of the "automatic" features are turned off.

That is great to know. I just put the mopar hitch receiver on. I’ll switch that setting when my wife brings the GCL back. (If she brings it back. Lol)

I wanted to give the auto features a chance. But after week, only thing I have got used to is smart CC, but it's like your expecting your car to slow down a bit, so when you drive with it off... we'll let's say I am actively seeking a way to just run normal cruise control. The features are great if your a very inattentive driver but for most of us, there hindering our normal driving habits.

You should be able to choose between the ACC and the standard cruise control. To use standard, just turn it on with the button in the middle of the 4 button on the right side, then you can set/change/speed up/ and cancel with the other buttons

The dealer called today and said an update to the TCM was needed. I should get it back soon and will give an update on whether or not the issue happens again. For now, I won't change any of the settings to make sure the dealer fix actually took care of the issue.

Sorry that I'm just getting to this...I had the same problem that happened 5 times in 3 days, took it into the dealership & there was a software update (3 in total that day) that corrected the problem. Also corrected the rough shifting that took place when slowing down
